Each Kackle has its own "zone", a section of the level where the Kongs enter through a gate and exit from out another.

Kackle is a ghostly Kremling from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest that chases after Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong in the level Haunted Hall, where it starts chasing the Kongs as soon as they enter into its territory. Kackles appear as skeletal Kremlings wearing colorful bandannas (blue, green, yellow, or red in the Super Nintendo, but just blue in the Game Boy Advance remake), a patch on an eye, and holding scimitars in a belt. According to the game's credits, Kackles belong to the "Kremling Kuthroats" enemy class.
When Diddy and Dixie enter a zone, a timer appears at the top of the screen, and the Kongs have to speed through the zone before it runs out. If that happens, the Kackle becomes tangible and injures the lead Kong. Kackles cannot be defeated.

Once Diddy and Dixie pass the first gate of Haunted Hall level, a Kackle can be found already waiting for the Kongs; a timer appears above of the screen, which the Kongs must pass the zone before the time limit. In the case that the Kongs have not left the zone yet and time runs out, the Kackle appears and attacks either Diddy or Dixie. Getting Plus and Minus Barrels will alter how long the Kackles will be kept intangible.
Every zone takes longer to pass through than what the timer is set at. As a workaround, the Kongs must use Plus Barrels to increment the timer and therefore prevent the Kackle from attacking them. Diddy and Dixie must also avoid the antonymous Minus Barrels, which takes away from the timer. The first two Kackles appear before the Star Barrel, and the other two appear afterward. Each zone progressively becomes more challenging as the Kackles become more difficult to avoid.

There are a total of four areas in the level where Kackle appears in; two before the checkpoint barrel, and two after the checkpoint. The first Kackle area features mostly Plus Barrels with a few Minus Barrels at the end. The second Kackle area has nothing but Plus Barrels. The third Kackle area only has Minus Barrels, but the player is given a long enough time limit to get through. The last Kackle area features both barrels that are placed around in rather tight spots.

Kackles are undead skeletal Kremlings that only appear in the level Haunted Hall of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Like with normal ghosts, Kackles move around by hovering. They all wear an eyepatch and a bandanna. In the end credits, Kackles are categorized under the "Kremling Kuthroats" class.

Kackles are absent from Donkey Kong Land 2, as the game does not have its own Haunted Hall variant, in favor of a generic rollercoaster level, Krazy Koaster.

In the Game Boy Advance remake, every Kackle wears a blue bandanna like the first one.
