The Planet of Trials is a small planet orbiting the Comet Observatory in Super Mario Galaxy. The planet can only be accessed once the three Green Power Stars have been recovered (as Flying Mario can't even get close to it; the Toad Brigade Leader states that he can't fly there despite the short distance away). Once they are collected, the Green Lumas will activate a Launch Star which will allow Mario to travel to the planet. This Launch Star is located on the small hill with the three green lumas, next to the Garage.
The planet then serves as the hub for Mario to enter the three Trial Galaxies: the Rolling Gizmo Galaxy, the Bubble Blast Galaxy, and the Loopdeeswoop Galaxy. After 120 Power Stars have been collected with both Mario and Luigi, a fourth Green Luma will appear on the planet and grant access to the Grand Finale Galaxy. There is also an orange Warp Pipe on the Planet of Trials that leads back to the Comet Observatory.

Trivia
- If the player tries to get to the Trial Galaxies using the Red Star instead of using the Green Launch Star, they'll run into an invisible barrier that prevents them from doing so, even when they've collected all three of the Green Power Stars. This is most likely to prevent Mario or Luigi from reaching the planet without collecting the three Green Power Stars.
