The Mario Zone revolves around a giant clockwork tower-like statue of Mario. Every stage takes place in a different part of "Mario's" body. Stage One takes place in "Mario's Shoe," which resembles a gear- and blade-filled machine inside. Stage Two takes place in "Mario's Stomach," an area full of "Stomach" bubbles (in fact, that's all it is; Mario must walk on these solid bubbles), cannonball-shooting pigs called Cannon Pigs, and angry teddy bears. Stage Three takes place on "Mario's Tongue."  The "tongue" is a mass of chains and mines, and is one of the only levels with Bullet Bills (although the Torpedo Ted in the Turtle Zone act more like Bullet Bills). Stage Four takes place in "Mario's Hat," and resembles a castle of N&B Blocks. The various enemies include pigs, toy soldiers, and block-impersonating jack-in-the-boxes. The boss(es) of Stage Four are the Three Little Pigs "gone bad", known as the The Three Little Pigheads.

The Mario Zone contains many references to European and American children's folklore and products. Such examples include the toy soldiers, the teddy bears, the N&B Blocks, and the Three Little Pigs.  In a way, this is a toy-box or nursery themed zone.

Template:Location-infobox The Mario Zone is one of the areas featured in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. The Zone consists of only four stages with no hidden or bonus stages. It is the only world in the game with no place to warp to further levels.

The Mario Zone is located within a giant mechanical statue of Mario. Every stage takes place in a different part of the statue's "body." Stage one takes place in the statue's "shoe," within which are a plethora of gears and blades. Stage two takes place in the statue's "stomach." an area full of "stomach" bubbles (in fact, that is all it is; Mario must walk on these solid bubbles), cannonball-shooting pigs called Cannon Pigs, and angry teddy bears. Stage three takes place on the statue's "tongue." The "tongue" is a mass of chains and mines and is one of the only levels with Bullet Bills (although the Torpedo Teds in the Turtle Zone act more like Bullet Bills). Stage four takes place in the statue's "hat" and resembles a castle of N&B blocks. The various enemies include pigs, toy soldiers, and block-impersonating jack-in-the-boxes. The boss(es) of this stage (and thus the zone) are The Three Little Pigheads.
