The 'Shroom:Issue 216/Fun Stuff
Director's Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome into the Fun Stuff offices, where we're preparing for that rainy spring season. That's right, soon enough the flowers will be their brightest, but we've got some grey skies to get through first. I hope your reemergence from the nightmare month that is February treated you kindly, and that you're finding some more levity and light day-to-day. It's always important to find the fun in all the chaos!
Another strong set of Fun Stuff sections await you here, especially as Hooded Pitohui (talk) provides his own touch to this month's 'Shroom Quiz. I'm not sure the last time I said this publicly, but I'm thrilled by the quality of our Fun Stuff right now. We've got such a solid team month-to-month, and I'm glad you all are here to enjoy it! To both reader and writer alike that makes Fun Stuff the subteam it is: thank you very kindly.
Oh, the shower's starting up outside... I better go brew some water for warm drinks. Make yourself at home, and enjoy our Fun Stuff offerings!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hi everyone, welcome to the March edition of anagrams! This month, you're going to have to think all things streets and buildings, as the theme for the month is towns and cities! If you fancy picking out a theme for a future issue, or perhaps putting an anagram you came up with to the test against your fellow readers, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, and I'll get right to work on working it in! OK, it's time to populate these squares with your answers!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. CLUB GRADE
2. KNOW ICY DENT
3. DOWN A TOT
4. BENT NOON

Word Search
You know what, I'm just going to say it. I like Gen 1, it has good Pokémon! Sure some of them are a little generic but that's what makes them so special! Plus it has all time greats like Parasect, Muk, Porygon! So this month's Word Search is all about some of my favorite Gen 1 Pokémon! Words can be found vertically, horizontally, diagonally, inside other words, and backwards. As always have fun stay safe!
Crossword
Written by: MarioMorty (talk)
I'm MarioMorty, and this is Crosswords? Of course, the answer is yes, and hopefully it'll stay that way for a long time coming. I'm here with another lucky edition, and this puzzle should give you more of a challenge than the last one. We're spinning out of control, as this one's all about the many spin-offs of the Mario series over its almost 40 year run. Once again, off to my crossword machine, and I'll leave y'all to it! Until next time, this is MarioMorty with Crosswords, signing off.
Hiding Koopa
Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)
Welcome to another round of Hiding Koopa! This month, I'm using a piece of artwork from the soon-to-be-released Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, a game that I don't really know anything about but it was on Nintendo's page of upcoming Switch games. So I can't really make any topical jokes, but... what is going on here! This structure has an American flag on it and it says United States! I'm not sure what's going on in this game but I do know that Xenoblade definitely doesn't take place in our world (although, apparently no one really knows how X is supposed to tie into the main games). Ninja Squid tried to explain it to me but I still don't really know what's going on, but maybe it's funnier that way. Anyway, enough of my confusion, now you can be confused trying to find all five Koopa Troopas in this image instead!
Thanks for playing! Did you find them all?
Connections
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome back to another edition of Connections! I was doing some spring cleaning in my word bank when I accidentally spilled all of these terms over the floor! Can you help me get them sorted and tidied?
How it works:
Below is a table of sixteen different words, all of them with some sort of connection to the Mario series. These words correlate in sets of four, and it's up to you to figure out which words belong to a set! Work through the grid and decide which words are connected. Once you think you have the answer, check against the provided answers. If you get stuck along the way, feel free to utilize the clues. There's only one correct answer, so be on the lookout for words that feel like they might fit in more than one category. Good luck!
Paper | Boot | Fettuccini Alfredo |
Mamu |
Christine | Spiked | Mama | Browser |
Dreamy | BowWow | Bow | Timpani |
Baby | Lima | Rosy | Tarin |
Start with "Dreamy"
What could be the missing link...
Is there an extra character on the list?
- Dreamy, Paper, Mama, Baby: ___ Luigi
- Mamu, Christine, BowWow, Tarin: Characters referencing Mario in Link's Awakening
- Boot, Spiked, Browser, Rosy: Mario characters with one letter added (Boo, Spike, Bowser, Roy)
- Fettuccini Alfredo, Bow, Timpani, Lima: Lady ___
How did you do? Did you figure out the connections? Thanks for playing!
Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!
You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!
Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.
Challenge round (optional):
-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less
-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help
“We’ve got a case of galactic proportions on our hands this time, gumshoe. Carmen has managed to steal an entire Rainbow Road! This course is a timeless classic in every Mario Kart game, where it resides as the final course of the Special Cup. Newer Mario Kart games have featured Rainbow Roads of old, but with each new iteration, the challenge ramps up. This particular iteration, from Mario Kart Wii, is completely free-floating in space, which may explain how Carmen was able to snatch it. Mario Kart Wii’s Rainbow Road is known for its difficulty, as racers find the lack of railings and sharp turns to be a fitting challenge for the last cup in the game. We’ve found some Lumas for you to question at the crime scene, so it’s time to strap your space helmet on and crack this case!”

Darker Side from Super Mario Odyssey
“You've spent a long time in orbit, gumshoe, but your hard work has paid off! We sent a team after you to the Darker Side, and your investigation turned up the entire course! To be completely honest, I'm not sure what Carmen was planning to do with this one- she would have had to keep it in space, and how do you hide an entire racecourse? No matter, she won't have the opportunity to work those logistics out. We're working out a plan with Rosalina and the observatory to get the course back in its proper orbit, and soon, racers will be zooming around it once again. You've done a good job, gumshoe, and we've sent a generous reward to your account. Now, it's time to get back to HQ and write up your case files for this job. We'll keep you in the loop for your next case.”
Musical Quiz
Written by: Ninja Squid (talk)
Another month, which means more music madness from me here in Fun Stuff!
Hello everyone, it's Ninja Squid back again with Musical Quiz! The goal, as usual, is pretty simple: you have eight samples of music to listen to, and you'll need to figure out which game they originate from. Now then, I have nothing much to add here, so let's go and test your knowledge of Mario soundtracks!

'Shroom Quiz
Written by: Hooded Pitohui (talk)
Hello, all you readers of The 'Shroom! I'm back in the quizmaster's chair this month, and like good ol' Chuck Quizmo, I'm going to be testing your memory of what you've encountered in the past. With no further ado, let's see what you recall from February's issue 215.
As a reminder, I'll provide two hints with every question to help jog your memory. The first hint will be unrelated to the content of issue 215, to give you an avenue through which you can work out the answer without having to pull up the paper. The second hint will tell you which section you should read again to find the answer, just in case you find yourself stuck. Are you ready? Let's begin!

You're more of a Amanita's Acquaintance if you were able to get 4-6 correct, but, hey, that's still better than being a Struggling Spore who only managed to get 0-3 correct.
And you know what? If you managed to do it all without using the hints, I'd go so far as to call you a Marvelous Morel.
However you did, I hope it was a fun walk down memory lane. Enjoy the rest of issue 216!
