The 'Shroom:Issue 209/Palette Swap
Director's Notes
It's August, and it's time for a new issue of The 'Shroom! Welcome back, everybody!
This month has been fairly quiet so far. I've been working through some books on my TBR pile while waiting for any new game news to hear. Did you all see the mini-Direct about the Nintendo Museum? It was a particularly charming Direct, the Museum looks so lovingly crafted. I'll be interested to see what all Nintendo has packed into it when it opens in October.
This month, we have a smaller team than usual due to Awards happening this month. Everyone needs a creative break now and then so they can refresh their creative juices, but our lovely PS veteran Waluigi Time (talk) has contributed a bonus Featured Sprite for you this month! I hope you enjoy!
Happy reading!

Featured Sprite
Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)
Hello there, 'Shroom readers! Welcome to a very one-off edition of Featured Sprite, a section that hasn't appeared in the paper at all for almost 9 years! Today I'm going to be talking about Kamek's defeat sprite from the hit Japan-only 2003 Gamecube game Nintendo Puzzle Collection because I rediscovered it while scrolling through wiki galleries a few months ago and really liked it. Do I need a better reason?
Okay, I'm just going to come out and say it. This is the best Magikoopa design in any game ever. First of all, I like the pre-Super Mario Galaxy Magikoopa design better because those hats and robes look really comfy. If I was a magically-inclined Koopa living in the Super Mario universe before 2007, you better believe I'd be signing up to join the Koopa Troop to get one of those robes (or wherever they come from). But Nintendo Puzzle Collection presents the absolute comfiest of the comfy Magikoopa robes. Just look at it! It's got to be at least two sizes too big, and Kamek is so upset that Yoshi beat him at making cookies that he's practically disappearing in there. No hands, no feet, just a little bit of his face like he's peeking out of a weird wizard-shaped garbage can. I can just imagine him sulking in a comfy chair with a mug of hot chocolate after this. Gotta put that wardrobe to good use.
So yeah, that's Kamek getting owned at baking, but at least he's doing it in maximum comfort! Hopefully you enjoyed the sprite and my words about said sprite.
