Wrinkly's Save Cave, later renamed to Wrinkly Refuge, is a grotto where Wrinkly Kong resides in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. It is the successor to the Kong Kollege from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Candy's Save Point from Donkey Kong Country, as Wrinkly's Save Cave is where Dixie and Kiddy Kong visit to save their game progress, though unlike Kong Kollege, Wrinkly does not provide any gameplay advice.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble![edit]

Wrinkly moved into several of her own caves in the Northern Kremisphere, following her retirement from Kong Kollege. A Wrinkly's Save Cave appears in every world of Northern Kremisphere, including the hub area itself, between Bazaar's General Store and Funky's Rentals. Each time Dixie and Kiddy enter Wrinkly's Save Cave, she is doing an activity, either exercising, playing a Nintendo 64, sitting on her couch, or sleeping. An arrangement of an early version of the "Inside the Castle Walls" theme from Super Mario 64 can be heard if Wrinkly is playing the Nintendo 64, and while doing so, Wrinkly asks, "Why don't they make games about knitting?" Wrinkly also looks after the Banana Birds rescued by the Kongs; after rescuing every Banana Bird, they return to the Banana Queen.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 3, Wrinkly's Save Cave is reduced to a single Wrinkly's Retreat on the main map, as saving is now done from the Start Button menu. Meanwhile, the other Save Cave locations were replaced with Cranky's Dojo. At Wrinkly's Retreat, Wrinkly only waits for the Kongs to rescue the missing Banana Birds.

Donkey Kong Land III / Donkey Kong GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong[edit]

In Donkey Kong Land III and its Japanese Game Boy Color release, Donkey Kong GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong, Wrinkly Refuge has a similar interior layout as before, and other than Wrinkly no longer performing a random activity, the place is otherwise the same as in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
