Rock Krocs[1][2][3] (also spelled RockKrocs[4]) are enemies in Donkey Kong Country. They have rocky, brown skin, glowing eyes[5] that are red, and are suggested to be zombies.[6]

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country[edit]

Rock Krocs appear in Donkey Kong Country. They appear only in Stop & Go Station, as the main obstacle and feature, though have erroneously been stated to appear in more stages.[7] Rock Krocs can be calmed by hitting the Stop & Go Barrels to "OFF,"[8] keeping them dormant for about three or four seconds,[9] and Rock Krocs start moving again when the barrels switch back to "GO".[10] It is possible to defeat a curled up Rock Kroc using a Hand Slap in the Japanese version[11][12] and the second remake.[11][12] A Rock Kroc releases either a banana, Banana Bunch, or a Red Balloon when defeated.

Donkey Kong Country novel[edit]

A Rock Kroc is one of King K. Rool's lieutenants at the end of the Donkey Kong Country novel. An inconsistency with the games is that Rock Kroc collapses after being stomped by Diddy.[13]

Donkey Kong Country: Rumble in the Jungle[edit]

A Rock Kroc leads a squadron of Kremlings within their factory in Big Ape City in the novel Donkey Kong Country: Rumble in the Jungle.[14] when the Kongs try to escape with the barrel plane.[14] Rock Kroc and his subordinates arrive at the plane as it begins moving,[15] but the Kongs are quick enough to escape.[16]

Super Mario-kun[edit]

A Rock Kroc is the main antagonist of the Donkey Kong Country anticipation chapter in volume 12 of Super Mario-kun. Mario and Yoshi help Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong retrieving their banana hoard, protected by one Rock Kroc. DK attempts to defeat him with a Roll Attack, but he bounces back, then he grabs a TNT Barrel, but the Kremling takes advantage of his appearance to hide between the rocks of the area and, not sure who to hit, DK's barrel explodes in his hands. Mario manages to lure him out with a free coupon and crushes him with a hammer, but the rock debris come together to create a giant rocky Rock Kroc, but it trips on banana peel left by Yoshi and comes apart. DK and Mario then crush the rocks into sand with hammers, defeating it.

  • Player's Guide: This possessed creature only appears in a couple of stages. That's plenty! When the lights in the cave glow green, the RockKrocs go crazy. They run back and forth with their arms outstretched, looking for something to grab. The only way to shut them down is to make the lights glow red. Doing so entails touching the Stop & Go Barrels as you move through the stage.[4]
  • Player's Guide (Game Boy Advance version): Rock Krocs are rare subterranean Krocs that have glowing red eyes and rocklike skin. They appear in only a few corners of Kong Island. Rock Krocs run around in a crazed rampage when the cave is lit green. Activate Stop & Go Barrels in levels that the stony beasts populate to change the level's lighting to red—the Rock Krocs will become temporarily immobilized.[21]
