Bowser Castle 2 is a race course in Super Mario Kart, appearing as the fourth course of the Flower Cup. It was subsequently reused in Mario Kart: Super Circuit as the first track of the Extra Lightning Cup. It is a stone road set in a pool of lava.

Course layout[edit]

As with the other Bowser Castle tracks, Bowser Castle 2 is composed entirely of straightaways and 90° turns. There are also Thwomps as obstacles, which remain airborne on the first lap. The course begins with a right turn followed by the first set of ? Panels. There is then a straightaway, where there are three jump pads on alternating sides of the track that allow racers to hop over the lava. There are also two pairs of Thwomps along the straightaway. Racers then take two right turns and reach a fork in the road; however, going left soon leads to a dead end. Racers then take two left turns, with a group of four Thwomps along the second turn, then there are two more forks in the road where racers must go either left or right around square holes in the road. On the left side of the first hole is a zipper. On the left side of the second hole is another four Thwomps, and on the right side of the second hole is a ? Panel. Afterwards, racers take a right turn and reach another straightaway where there are many jump pads that allow racers to hop over the lava. The first part of this straightaway is split down the middle by a wall, and the middle of the straightaway has a row of three Thwomps. After this straightaway is a right turn with one last Thwomp, followed by a brief straight that takes racers to the finish line.

Shortcuts[edit]

A notable shortcut can be found at the first fork in the road. By intentionally taking the dead end route, the player can use a well timed Feather or Mushroom assisted hop to get over the lava and cut off several turns.

Bowser Castle 2 reappears in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and is the first track of the Extra Lightning Cup. It uses the background from that game's own Bowser Castle 2. The Thwomps and zipper were removed from the track.

Trivia[edit]

  • This is the only course in the Flower Cup in Super Mario Kart that has yet to return as a classic course in a later Mario Kart game other than Mario Kart: Super Circuit.
    • As such, it is also the only Flower Cup course in Super Mario Kart that has not appeared in Mario Kart Tour.
