Ask Cranky was a segment of the official Donkey Kong Country website, functioning as a "frequently asked questions" page for parents. On the page, questions regarding Donkey Kong Country are answered by Cranky Kong, who would frequently insult the user. Cranky also provided screenshots of Donkey Kong Country on each page of questions, which would occasionally be captioned.

Questions[edit]

  • Q: Where's a good spot to find a lot of free lives?
  • A: What, you need free lives to beat K. Rool? What a loser! When I starred in video games we only had one life, and we were happy to have it! You youngin's aren't as tough these days, so I suppose I can let you in on a little secret. Go to Jungle Hijinxs and follow these simple steps:
  • 1. First, finish the level. Then re-enter the level and work your way back to the Continue Barrel to save your progress.
  • 2. Next, go to the right and collect the Golden Expresso Token.
  • 3. Press Start and then Select to exit the level.
  • 4. Re-enter the level and get the Animal Token again.
  • 5. Repeat this until you get three Animal Tokens and you'll go to the Expresso Bonus Level. In the bonus level you'll be able to pick up at least five or six extra lives every time.

I'd be able to get more if I had a chance to try it, but these old bones don't move like they used to!

  • Q: How many extra lives can I get?
  • A: What is it with you whippersnappers and free lives? The game stops displaying how many lives you have after you get 99, but it still keeps track as long as you keep rackin' 'em up. The maximum number of extra lives is 354. For example, you could have 120 lives but the game will still just say that you have 99. Man, and to think that I busted my hide trying to beat my games with only one life! Those were the days ...
  • Q: How many endings are there?
  • A: Two. If you don't find everything then I'll be there to point out your shortcomings. If you find everything, then I'll be there to congratulate you. I doubt that that will happen anytime soon.
  • Q: How do I get 101%?
  • A: Now we're talking. It's good to see the youth of today trying to give it their all. To get 101% you'll need to find and enter every last bonus area and every regular area as well. You also need to beat K. Rool, find every last sticker and finish the game in each of the three play modes. Back in my day, I'd probably find a way to get 102%, but 101% is pretty good for this generation. If you see an exclamation point after the name of a level, that means that you've found everything. If not, then you have more work to do!
  • Q: How do I go back to worlds that I've already finished?
  • A: That's typical. Instead of exploring uncharted territory you want to loaf around in levels you've already completed. If you really want to, visit Funky's Flights and use his plane to fly back.
