World 8-1 is the first level of World 8 in Super Mario Bros. Special. It is an athletic stage set atop Mushroom Platforms.
Layout
The level begins with Mario next to a Mushroom Platform above a pit filled with water, with a single Red Koopa Troopa atop the mushroom platform. Past the initial Mushroom Platform is another, wider Mushroom Platform with three Little Goombas atop it, and a row of ? Blocks above it. The leftmost ? Block contains a single powerup. After this is a Lift with a Red Koopa Paratroopa blocking the way to a set of three Mushroom Platforms, that lead to a Scale Lift with a Fire-Bar in the middle of its platforms. Past the Scale Lift are three more Mushroom Platforms with a Sidestepper atop the middle one, before reaching another, much longer Fire-Bar blocking the path to one final Mushroom Platform before Mario jumps across a wide pit to land on ground. On land, there is an open stretch with many Green Koopa Paratroopas, Fighter Flies, Buzzy Beetles, and Sidesteppers guarding rows of Brick Blocks, with the occasional Hidden Block providing high ground for Mario to use. In the second brick from the left on the second, singular row of Brick Blocks is a Starman. Past this are more Mushroom Platforms with Fighter Flies hopping across them and Red Koopa Paratroopas flying between them, before leading to an arrangement of a Flimsy Lift and a Lift over a chasm with many Green Koopa Paratroopas. After this are two more Mushroom Platforms, forming a staircase to the flagpole.
