New Super Mario Wiki Logo
I've been thinking that the wiki could hold a contest to design a brand new logo for the Super Mario Wiki. It's a new year, and as far as I know, the current logo is the only one to ever be used (again, as far as I know). -- 02:08, 3 January 2017 (EST)
- We've actually had this logo previously to our current one (I think it was changed about eight years ago). Anyway, it would depend entirely on whether there is enough community interest to change it again. Recently, the banners at MarioWiki:Maintenance and MarioWiki:Proposals have been redesigned, due to the strong community interest at the wiki's forums (see here and here). So I think that any pitch to change the wiki's logo would require that same involvement. If you wanted to pursue it, then I'd suggest bringing up within the "general discussion" topic on the forum's collaboration board. Because ultimately, the admins wouldn't really organise it without that pre-momentum from the community. Shokora (talk · edits) 06:04, 3 January 2017 (EST)
- I'm not really the type of person that can handle building momentum, i.e. I'm not a leader; I nearly didn't do the bestiary proposal. Someone else should head to the forums for this, not me. What were the circumstances around changing the logo the first time? I also came up with a couple of design logos: Imgur (I like the second one more). -- 15:00, 3 January 2017 (EST)
- I'm not sure on the process of how the last logo was changed, I wasn't even around that far back. Your logos are nice; it would just be a matter of you asking people for their yay/nay opinion on them, and then tending to any suggestions for improvement. And then if there was enough support from other people, then perhaps they would be willing to help you take it further. Shokora (talk · edits) 07:24, 4 January 2017 (EST)
- Is it too late to add on The 'Shroom under Discussions Seeking Input that there's an ongoing discussion about the wiki logo?

a whatchamacallit term...
Hi. Do you happen to know if there is a term for an easy-to-recognize concept in RPG games? It's this: when the player moves in the field, usually the camera moves as the player does, but sometimes the camera stops moving when the player reaches the edge of a certain kind of region, and if the player crosses the region, the screen turns black and then resumes with the player in the next. (In Partners in Time, the Lakitu cameraman speaks of "rooms", but this doesn't always work. In Bowser's Inside Story, such regions are denoted by rectangles on the map and uncovered one by one.) Does "screen" work, or maybe there is a better word for such "regions"? --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 10:23, 3 January 2017 (EST)
- I've asked around, and it seems that the smaller, split-up areas within RPG games are appropriately referred to as "chunks". And I think the action of darkening the camera when moving from one chunk to another could just be called a "transition". Shokora (talk · edits) 07:51, 4 January 2017 (EST)

Deletion of Upload Wars (Continued)
You never got around to deleting a lot of the file history for these files before archiving the discussion! Also both the edit history and file history of File:Pnp-logo.png need removal of certain edits pertaining to piracy websites. - Sorry, I totally missed this question. Only administrators have the ability to completely "delete" an image or individual revisions. I think the "change visibility" can only allow you to prevent people from viewing the actual upload or summary. Even if you hid both, I think the revision would still be recorded unless it was fully deleted by an administrator. Shokora (talk · edits) 19:05, 23 May 2017 (EDT)

A few mistakes on Help and Mariowiki pages
There are two pages that have mistakes and I can't edit them because they are protected so only admins can edit so I want you to fix them. In Help:CSS, in the last section it says If you want to add comments (text that the CSS won't read), put it inbetween /* and */. There should be a space in between inbetween. In Mariowiki:Bots, you will find that there should be the letter s after the word email at the end (the second email). Mr squid Talk Edits 10:00, 5 January 2017 (EST)
- Thanks for pointing those out! They've been corrected. Shokora (talk · edits) 08:03, 6 January 2017 (EST)
RE:Shadoo Reversion
Ah, okay. Yeah, Glowsquid (talk) explained that pretty well. The section was removed back in May and wasn't undone since until yesterday. I saw it as a bunch of speculation as none of it is truly confirmed, but there does seem to be a significant amount of backstory to this, doesn't there? Apologies for all the confusion. 12:41, 6 January 2017 (EST)
RE: Super Mario Galaxy game guide
Hey! There's no enemy list in the SMG1 guide (at least for the Premiere Edition; not sure about the Collector's Edition), so I had to look through the levels they appeared in to see if they'd mention "Metallic Goombas" or "Octobeetles". So far, I haven't found any mentions of these two names (The RPG Gamer (talk) added the "Octobeetle" name; might want to ask him when his block expires), but I did find these:
- "Watch out for the robot Goombas on the planetoid's surface. Mario can spin to knock these little menaces into the black hole or tip them over with a stomp on the unguarded underbelly to earn a coin." (pg. 83; level is Bowser Jr.'s Robot Reactor)
- "These robots wander around a warp pipe. Spin to knock the robots on their backs, then stomp their vulnerable undercarriages." (pg. 268; level is Dreadnought Galaxy)
The Buoy Base Galaxy section doesn't seem to mention them at all. If I do run into any of those two names, or if there are any more levels they're found in that come to mind, I'll let you know.
As for Kingfin, the guide does indeed only refer to it as "the Bonefin" (odd considering the mission is called "Kingfin's Fearsome Waters"). Some references:
- "When Mario splashes down on the planet, the Bonefin swims into view." (pg. 248)
- "After Mario lands two hits on the Bonefin, the behemoth calls in reinforcements." (pg. 248)
- "After landing the fifth hit on Bonefin, the leviathan crumbles and all his skeletal minions disappear." (pg. 249)
Hope this helps! Mario JC 07:03, 7 January 2017 (EST)
- Found one of them!
- "Watch out for the metallic Goombas on the twin discs. They'll try to needle Mario as he explores the area." (pg. 104; level is Battlerock Galaxy)
- There doesn't seem to be one definitive name for it, as the guide goes back and forth exclusively between names with generic descriptors like "robot" and "metallic". (Also on the same page: "Robotic Goombas wander the discs, complicating Mario's mission.") Mario JC 08:00, 7 January 2017 (EST)
Congrats!

I was only gone three hours18:53, 7 January 2017 (EST)
At first, I thought it was a demotion (wanted, not deserved), but I guess the ranks were different than I thought. The reason the misconception was occurring is that administrators were doing most of the work that regular users or patrollers couldn't do. Rarely did I see a bureaucrat do those things for the time I was active here. Guess order at which it appears here matters. I'm so dumb . Anyways, congrats! --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:06, 8 January 2017 (EST)

Proposal passed
The proposal I made about creating a template for appeal outcomes has passed, so could you temporarily unprotect the archive pages so that I can apply the necessary changes? P.S.: There's also a template that might will need permanent protection, considering that the feature it was used for was shot down around five-and-a-half years ago. (T|C) 11:14, 8 January 2017 (EST)
- I'd prefer to avoid having to protect-unprotect the two archives, so I've just went and did it myself. Also, the Featured Image template has been now protected. Thanks. Shokora (talk · edits) 20:38, 9 January 2017 (EST)
Wiki Maintenance things
I have some ideas on how to improve the writing on some of the category listings on the Wiki maintenance page, along with some typos I've found:
- "Articles that are yet to be created will be shown as a red link. New articles must follow the Manual of Style, and may only be created by autoconfirmed users."
The "are" should be changed to "have" and "may" should be changed to "can" (as "may" suggests an option otherwise).
- "Users who have created stub articles should receive a {{new stub-reason}} reminder, so that they can understand how their future articles may be improved."
Should this instead say the following to be clearer?
- "Users who have created stub articles without marking them as such should receive a {{new stub-reason}} reminder, so that they can understand how their future articles may be improved."
- "Articles that are tagged with the {{construction}} template are not fully finished"
The "are" is missing.
I think it should be noted in the "Orphaned Pages" box that a majority of them are disambiguations and don't exactly need a link to them.
That's all I caught right now, but I'll let you know if I find any more. 19:11, 8 January 2017 (EST)
- Thank you, those are all very good suggestions. They've now been applied. Shokora (talk · edits) 06:25, 10 January 2017 (EST)
Unlicensed Images is missing a link to its category.
Maybe it should be noted that only Autoconfirmed Users can vote in talk page proposals in the Pending discussions section?
13:16, 14 January 2017 (EST)
- Unlicensed images don't actually have its own maintenance category, hence why that entry just listed categories that unlicensed images wouldn't appear in. Nethertheless, I have noted the exception. The autoconfirmed part has also been added. Shokora (talk · edits) 17:57, 14 January 2017 (EST)

Re: Partners in Time screenshot
Whoops, sorry about that. I guess the answer is yes, according to Wildgoosespeeder. Is it possible to restore the JPG that got replaced? DeSmuME's OpenGL rendering option doesn't play well with my Windows 7 environment. RE: On issuing warnings
Perhaps I am a bit uptight about how things are run on MarioWiki. I feel this way because I think some things that happen here are too relaxed compared to other Wikis I have edited. Or maybe I am so used to tighter control that it bugs me more than it should and other people get annoyed by my actions. Whatever the case, I am sorry for that though.
I had a feeling I was overusing those templates considering that many of them I issued are getting overturned within the past few months. I thought I understood how to use them and understood policy enough to issue them. The warnings I have been giving were mostly related to images, if I remember right. The overturning records tell a different story though. I started to issue them less frequently with the introduction of {{uncategorized}}. Ultimate Mr. L (talk) was an example where it was doing more good than issuing warnings. As for templates such as {{aboutfile-reminder}} and {{imagecategory-reminder}}, I will continue to issue those because they are more instructional than for keeping a track record of performance, unless you feel differently of course.
The last warning I gave at this time, which was for Toadette the Achiever (talk), I thought was more justified than the previous ones I was issuing because I think they were aware I was in the process of archiving. I don't know where the user was coming from where they said it was just a few minutes in between. I saw hours. Oh well, have to let that one go.
Anyways, thanks for confirming with me that I am being too harsh with my warning issuing. I hope that I can improve how to spot real behavioral issues instead of perceived ones. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:30, 12 January 2017 (EST)

Re: iQue
Thanks! I'm thinking about a history section now. Neither the Chinese nor the English Wikipedia has had such a section, but the 52Poké wiki (the Chinese affiliate of Bulbapedia) has a detailed one (from a Pokémon point of view), and I plan to write an abstract of it. By the way, there's actually have a question I've always wanted to ask: if a citation applies to a whole section (instead of just one sentence), where would the best place to put it? --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 06:41, 24 January 2017 (EST)

Proposal Passed, Need Assistance
My proposal passed and I need some assistance modifying MarioWiki:Image use policy, but also to reflect a very old but still enforced proposal about prohibiting bad/fan transparency. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:30, 30 January 2017 (EST)

- Sounds good to me. Can't wait for the changes to be added. The transparency part should have been included already, at least since M&SG (talk)'s 2011 proposal passed. At least you can include more to your draft with the image format conversion bit that is now prohibited. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:36, 30 January 2017 (EST)
- What about cases like File:Paper Mario Japanese logo.png? It seems to involve switching format back and froth. --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 21:30, 30 January 2017 (EST)
- My proposal already covered such a case. That was uploaded before the proposal. As things are discovered, deal with them on a case by case basis. Just one for now. Either keep {{image-quality}} or upload the GIF as-is. The proposal was meant more for JPEG to PNG but I decided to do GIF to PNG as well to be consistent. I have seen many sprites and screenshots in static GIF form that need a proper PNG. I'm also guilty of doing GIF to PNG, but I later regretted it. Unfortunately, I can't remember what images I converted from GIF. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:31, 30 January 2017 (EST)

RE: SMS
Thank you! I used to do oversized ones, at least with GCN games, but I started to experiment with Dolphin's capabilities a bit more and found out that a certain graphical mode might be producing screenshots more closely to what real hardware can produce, but at a cost of being extremely slow. The oversizing was due to Dolphin's shoddy implementation of screenshots and me trying to cover it up with something nicer. To get technical and keep things understandable, I think that the GCN's graphical instructions being converted into something that a computer's GPU can understand is a bit off with Dolphin when using OpenGL, Direct3D, or Vulkan because it thinks that native resolution is 640x528 for all games when really it isn't. I even made a note of it in my WIP. I still do this oversizing with Wii games because widescreen is faked on real hardware. Resizing the window to be exactly at native is a pain in the butt and too involved so that is why I still recommend oversizing. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:18, 10 February 2017 (EST)
RE: Virtual Boy Screenshots
I don't know what to think of this. VBjin is the easiest to get into so that is why I selected it. I'm not a fan of including MS-DOS-like elements in the GUI, like ZSNES (also an inaccurate and garbage SNES emulator compared to Snes9x and bsnes). It's a shame that VBjin doesn't have a palate swap feature like FCEUX. The colors are so very slightly off that it's almost undetectable and not worth worrying about. There are a few remedies to this issue of color. You could select the coloring to greyscale and isolate the four shades and apply the correct colors manually. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 14:54, 11 February 2017 (EST)
RE: Art
Regarding the Dr. Mario art, yeah it all seems to be from Nintendo Power. Meanwhile the Mario Clash and Super Mario Land art is all from their instruction manuals. Admittedly, I didn't scan them myself, this lovely Tumblr did. Paper Jorge (Talk·Contribs)
Renaming vandals
Hey, I saw something Walkazo said a while back (which I can't find now) that said something along the lines of "if we rename a vandal to something like 'Noname', then the original name can be taken by another vandal." Would it be a good idea to just keep the vandal's name as is, however inappropriate it may be, and let it fade into obscurity, so another vandal can't take it? Or is there something more to it? 17:46, 12 February 2017 (EST)
Hmm, I think that if you choose to allow redirects to the new name (I didn't), then a new account shouldn't be able to be registered with that name. For example, after I was renamed, a new account couldn't register with the name "YoshiKong" (because that name already redirected to my talk and user page). The main benefit of renaming such users, is that the inappropriate name is hidden in the public block log and new user log. Shokora (talk · edits) 17:52, 12 February 2017 (EST)

Fixing FA title
Hi. Could you move to MarioWiki:MarioWiki:Featured Articles/Unfeature/N1/Geno to MarioWiki:Featured articles/Unfeature/N1/Geno without leaving a redirect? I contacted L151 (talk) about performing this action, but I don't think she'll be able to answer my request fast enough, so that's why I'm notifying you. Doing that would be greatly appreciated. - Nice! However, there are more FA pages that need to be moved with no leftover redirect: MarioWiki:Featured articles/A1/Lakitu → MarioWiki:Featured articles/N1/Lakitu (and, in turn, MarioWiki:Featured articles/N1/Lakitu → MarioWiki:Featured articles/N2/Lakitu), as well as MarioWiki:Featured articles/N1/Super Smash Bros. → MarioWiki:Featured articles/N2/Super Smash Bros. (and, in turn, MarioWiki:Featured articles/A1/Super Smash Bros. → MarioWiki:Featured articles/N1/Super Smash Bros.), MarioWiki:Featured articles/A2/Yoshi → MarioWiki:Featured articles/N2/Yoshi, and MarioWiki:Featured articles/Archive/N1/Mario Power Tennis (Nintendo GameCube) → MarioWiki:Featured articles/N1/Mario Power Tennis (Nintendo GameCube). Should Shroom Images Be Considered Bot Uploads?
Should images for The Shroom be considered bot uploads, even though technically it wouldn't be bot uploading? Currently, this can make Special:NewFiles kind of challenging to sort through whenever such images are getting uploaded. We can talk to Porplemontage (talk) and other shroom writers to see what we can work out. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:10, 19 February 2017 (EST)
- I'm not sure whether that would be possible to implement. And I don't think it's very necessary: I doubt the uploads for The 'Shroom fill much more than half a page of the recent changes. And it would be easier on the 'Shroom staff to be able to easily view what they've uploaded so far. Shokora (talk · edits) 04:26, 19 February 2017 (EST)
- Future uploads could be done by using a bot account. All that Porplemontage (talk) would need to do is set the flag if you need to create a new account. A bot doesn't necessary have to use the account, or at least I don't think. I have used a bot before to puppeteer my account to finish off images in Category:Beta Images and put them in Category:Pre-release and unused content images. I think the inverse can be true. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 04:55, 20 February 2017 (EST)
Make An Edit
Hi,
I wanted to make an edit to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but I can't edit it (I assume because I'm obviously a new member), so maybe you can do it for me? :)
I recently found a discovery with the game watching this video on YouTube. At the very end of the video, you can see the racer getting inked by the Blooper after finishing the race, which is a change from Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. On the Wii U version, when a Blooper is about to ink a racer as they cross the finish line to finish the race, the blooper just disappears instead. Rjlefty96 (talk) 04:00, 19 February 2017 (EST)

VBWL Sprites
I don't know if it is a good idea to have sprites in grayscale like the Game Boy Pocket or something because the only colors that we will officially see them in are in that color pallet. Category:Virtual Boy Wario Land Images --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:16, 20 February 2017 (EST)
- For the time being, the sprites are easier to produce in greyscale. Once I have the bulk of the work sorted, then I could begin to recolor the sprites in their native red colors. I'm not sure at this stage whether we want to completely re-upload over the greyscale, or provide both versions... Most likely the former. Shokora (talk · edits) 22:21, 20 February 2017 (EST)

I'm talking about the disambiguation page, not the Wii or DS pages. An IP re-added previously removed information. The page covers the Vancouver games only, not the Sochi ones. Generally, content shouldn't be altered/removed unless it's plain vandalism/flaming. But as long as you're clearly stating that any swearing/yelling/personal info is unwanted, then you should be entitled to remove any intruding content. I hope this answers your question. If it makes you feel any better, you have more main namespace edits than I do and your writing skills are way better than mine. Old Template: Delete or Tag With {{abandoned}}?
Someone over at MarioWiki:Proposals pointed out a very old template:
{{requirescortado}}
This is a largely unused template because HTML5 allows for play of files originally requiring the plugin referenced by the template. I think that MediaWiki was updated some time ago to utilize this new standard so our OGG, OGA, and OGV files can be played without installing any plugins or using Java. Most web browsers today are HTML5-compliant. The question is should the old template be deleted or be tagged with {{abandoned}}? Personally, I never used the Java plugin because I just used an external program capable of decoding those files because MediaWiki gives me the option to download the file if there is an error, such as VLC Media Player or K-Lite Codec Pack. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:18, 25 April 2017 (EDT)

Categorized Media Files
I noticed you are progressively working on List of audio samples used in Mario games (future article). Interesting notes. Anyways, I just got done categorizing all audio and video files in Category:Fair use video samples and Category:Fair use music samples, in Category:Media by game. Any future uploads you have for your WIP, categorize the media, like we do with images (Category:Images by game). If a category doesn't exist for a game (likely doesn't at this point), just create the missing category when new media gets uploaded (like Category:Mario Party 8 Media Files). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 05:25, 29 April 2017 (EDT)

Moving Help
My proposal passed and I need to move a bunch of files. That isn't a problem, because I can get Pywikibot on it, but that's going to leave ~1,000 redirects with my current abilities (can't skip leaving a redirect). To ease needing to {{delete}} each and every redirect, I need an additional privilege to move pages without leaving a redirect. Additionally, I detected non-article pages using these files too, such as two help pages and other locations I can't edit. Will you help me with this somehow? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:20, 2 May 2017 (EDT)
- The efficiency of this transition, most of the heavy lifting will be performed by editing {{media table}} and linked templates, which has already been done. That's because the template handles the extension of the file, for reasons I don't know why it was set up that way, but it was helpful in the longrun, for this case. Another heavy lifter is Pywikibot, which you can see my moves. There are several pages, not just articles (see User talk:Porplemontage#Move Help), using a hard link (
[[File:Peachs Birthday Cake.ogg]]
for Peach's Birthday Cake), which can also be spotted and edited by the bot. During the 1-week period of voting, I ran the bot to see what articles were using the hard link. I made appropriate changes. The remaining pages are just hard linking to audio files. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:50, 3 May 2017 (EDT)

- I actually thought the images might be too big, compared to the ones in other DKC articles, but now I don't think that's a problem (the images from older games are at their actual size, anyway). Afterall, images should be big and visible, not to mention that, in this case, they also reflect the immensity of the game! (Again, compared to other DKC games.) Re:Sand storm
The SMW manual is online, and I happen to own the SMA2 manual. They both roughly say the same thing. From the SMA2 manul: "If Yoshi has a yellow shell in his mouth, he'll form sand clouds every time he jumps onto the ground. These sand clouds will topple enemies." Audio on Level Pages
There has been a great deal of confusion about linking audio files on level pages, between my and Time Turner (talk)'s talk pages. He says you don't want users to link to them if the audio track is not unique to the level page. I'd argue that linking an audio file on multiple level pages would provide two benefits:
- Bring more awareness to audio files being sought and being supported by the wiki/browser.
- Gives information what music plays during a level.

Wario Land Completion
Hello, I noticed you have been expanding the VBWL pages greatly, I've been trying something similar with WL3 myself. One thing I am wondering, though, is whether the "barge" attack that keeps being mentioned is the same as the Dash Attack. --Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:08, 13 July 2017 (CT)
- Thanks! And the Barge attack could be merged with Dash Attack, because they are indeed very similar. Just leave the Barge links red as they are for now, so I remember to get that information properly covered. Shokora (talk · edits) 20:40, 13 July 2017 (EDT)
Re: Mummy Guy
I don't think a screenshot is necessary, but posting the actual filepath is a good idea. I can't check right now, but when I can I'll post the path. Luckily I also found the name in a press release, and I'll add that now. --Hiccup (talk) 08:30, 17 July 2017 (EDT)
- Or did you mean a screenshot to prove to you that the filenames are the way I say they are? I'll hopefully be able to post that soon. --Hiccup (talk) 12:55, 17 July 2017 (EDT)

- Those are more difficult, as they don't have standard filesystems. Its really a matter of exploring the ROM with a hex editor or graphics editor/viewer. Hxd is a good hex editor and you can find many romhacking tools here https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/ --Hiccup (talk) 06:11, 21 July 2017 (EDT)

Re: Hex editor
Some games will have filenames or names for other purposes. Try GBA text hacking tools, a hex editor or a the unix utility "strings" to find those. You can use "strings -eS" to look for Shift-JIS (which is a Japanese character encoding) strings too (or something like that). Also, on a related note - you may want to contact Nintendo customer services regarding official names. They may be to help with that - they did with someone on the forums a while ago. --Hiccup (talk) 12:47, 21 July 2017 (EDT)
Question
Since Wixbly's only contributions are spam links to a shady site with the same name as their account, shouldn't they be immediately banned as per the policy for accounts created solely to advertise? Hopefully this doesn't count as undermining admin authority or anything, I just wasn't sure if anyone else noticed this. Niiue (talk) 21:17, 27 July 2017 (EDT)

I don't think that will be necessary yet because I am hiding my edits and only 11 edits were made since Porplemontage (talk) gave me the OK to perform the edits. I understand the concern, but no vandals have been spotted. Since my edits are going to consist of files mainly, just select files namespace and Invert selection. I know that won't help you spot vandal edits for files, but those kind of edits aren't nearly as common as main article vandalizing. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:25, 30 July 2017 (EDT)
Purple Pipe
I was wondering if you knew anything about the "Purple Pipe" in Wario Land 4. It's a redirect now to Warp Pipe, but since a few articles still link to "Purple Pipe", I was wondering if it was an official name. At the very least, if it was official, it could be noted on the Warp Pipe page. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 11:21, 3 August 2017 (EDT)

SVG Resizing
There is no need to resize the SVGs themselves because they don't contain any pixel data, but rather a list of shapes in an XML-based file. They look good no matter how big or small they get from their default defined size. What is changing are shape parameters in the SVG when you resize the SVGs themselves.

"Rough and Unofficial"
What might one be able to do to avoid "rough" work with image transparency? I haven't found anything useful in the directory to answer that. Does Super Mario Wiki simply not permit unofficial transparency work? Pakkun (talk) 10:29, 23 September 2017 (EDT)

School of Fish
Pardon, but wouldn't it be better to keep the talk page for School of Fish? It seems to have dicussed deleting the page, and keeping it there would explain to new users why it was deleted. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 23:45, 12 October 2017 (EDT)
- It didn't seem important enough to keep as reference, as it was only a minor page and users would be unlikely to find it. But I've restored it as you've asked. Shokora (talk · edits) 00:53, 13 October 2017 (EDT)
- Minor or not, if someone made the page in the first place, it's not unlikely that someone might want to make it again the future. That's just my two cents, though. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 12:05, 13 October 2017 (EDT)

May I move the page Metalhead to Metal-Head? I think it's better suited among other names from VBWL, which are "binomial" and separated by a dash. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 13:58, 27 October 2017 (EDT)

MarioWiki:Personal files, TrickyMario7654 (talk) has six personal images, but he is blocked indefinitely, so does that mean all personal images should be removed instead of two random ones? Should the policy page reflect this or should the four images stay? MarioWiki:Blocking policy doesn't seem to have procedures either. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 03:35, 11 November 2017 (EST)
- Hi. I don't think we routinely delete a user's personal images just because they're blocked, and the same goes for userpages. But in this case, I don't think anyone is going to miss the images, so I just deleted all of them rather than choosing two to keep to the limit. Shokora (talk · edits) 18:17, 11 November 2017 (EST)
- It's such an odd case, but if left unchecked for every unquestionable permaban (there have been instances where a sysop felt uneasy with a permaban), any remaining personal images could pile up. Maybe it should be reconsidered what rules to follow and allow how much time to pass between the ban and deletion of permabanned members? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 08:49, 12 November 2017 (EST)

That image of Mario's doohicky
A while back, someone posted a link to a site detailing that very image in a talk page, and that talk page was deleted and that person reprimanded. I figured, as such, posting it here would be equally offensive, if not moreso, as a matter of course. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:52, 13 November 2017 (EST)
Proposal talky thing
I had already stopped and decided to ask a patroller what he felt of that situation and whether any and all behavior there was acceptable. However, he hasn't come online yet. In the interrim, Niiue gave Howzit a reminder.
Been meaning to ask you this, are you planning on ripping any more of the VBWL sprites, or have you finished for the foreseeable future? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 07:18, 17 November 2017 (EST)
- Okay, thank you.
- Those sprites are ripped frame-by-frame, so they take a long time. I am on holiday break now, so I'd like to devote more time to that project (there are plenty more enemies/bosses to rip).

Question about possible pre-release and unused content images
I was looking through all the images for Super Mario 3D World for low-quality screenshots to replace and found these images:
- File:SM3DWgrass.png
- File:SM3DW Early Shifty Boo Mansion.png
- File:SM3DWants.png
- File:SM3DW Early Spike's Lost City.png
- File:SM3DW Cave + Goomba Tower.png
- File:SuperMario3D Cats Screenshot.png
- File:Super Mario 3D World Climbing Cat Mario.png
I could easily replace them, but I noticed that they were uploaded before the game's release. These images don't have descriptions suggesting that they contain pre-release/unused content, but some images uploaded with these do contain it, as seen in Gallery:Super Mario 3D World#Screenshots. Do you think I should leave these or replace them? --Super Mario Fan 67 (T•C•S) 10:40, 20 December 2017 (EST)
- I speak from experience. What makes this harder is the images linked don't have a source where it was obtained. In general, Super Mario Wiki users tend to upload first, ask questions later. I feel that image uploads for upcoming games should be more restrictive, but only until release. Then normal uploading can resume. Why? Sudden influx of images get uploaded and things get harder to coordinate and track otherwise. Bulbapedia has a decent idea for a policy, especially with the recent release of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but they tend to take it too far and lock the entire wiki, which isn't fair for those looking to improve older articles. I did find Machop At Work has a bad image that I can't tag with {{bad picture}}, but that is beyond the scope of this wiki. It's just an example of how far not to take this idea I had. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 10:53, 20 December 2017 (EST)
