Description This tropical paradise is more dangerous than it seems! The tides shift every turn, and so do the paths you can take across the board. The Goomba Volcano won't stay dormant for long either...

Goomba Lagoon is a board that appears in Super Mario Party Jamboree. It is set on a large tropical island, featuring a shipwreck and a large volcano shaped like a Goomba. The tide changes on this board, causing various aspects of the board to change as it is played, both aesthetically and physically, changing the available paths. This board's exclusive item, the Tide Shell, can manually change the tide, while some Event Spaces can also affect the tide.[1] If the player is on a space that has been submerged by high tide, a Fishin' Lakitu appears and transports them to an on-land space.[2] Additionally, the volcano in the center of the board may erupt, spewing out ether many Gold Goombas or many Lava Bubbles.[3]

This board is referenced in Rainbow Galleria on an advertisement at the back of the top floor.

Events[edit]

Mechanics[edit]

  • The changing tides: The tide changes every few turns, when someone uses a Tide Shell, or when specific Event Spaces are landed on, which changes the available paths. If the player is on a space that has been submerged by high tide, a Fishin' Lakitu appears and transports them to an on-land space.

Event Spaces[edit]

  • Zipline: Landing on one of the two Event Spaces near the two ziplines forces the player to travel to the other end of the zipline, and Goomba charges the player a fee.
  • Treasure chests: The player participates in this event by landing on either of the two Event Spaces near a set of five treasure chests. First, items are put inside four of the chests and Goomba hides inside the remaining chest. After that, the chests are shuffled, and then the player has to pick a chest. If it has an item, the player receives it, but if Goomba is inside, they receive no items and lose 5 coins. The chosen chest is then removed from play for the next player landing on it. This event is similar to Roll Out the Barrels, an item minigame in Mario Party 2. Because items are involved, this event is not played on the final turn.
  • Fishing: The player participates in this event by landing on either of the two Event Spaces near the fishing spot run by a Goomba. The player can receive a maximum of 15 coins in this event. They can attempt to fish multiple times to receive as many coins as they can, as long as the total does not exceed 15, or they can choose to stop after any attempt. If the total number of coins caught in the event exceeds 15, the bucket tips over and the player loses all coins earned in the event.
  • The changing tides: Landing on certain Event Spaces changes the tides, as stated above.

Passing Spaces[edit]

  • Volcano eruption!: The volcano erupts, spewing out either many Gold Goombas or many Lava Bubbles on different spaces. Passing through each Gold Goomba awards 5 coins, while passing through each Lava Bubble takes away 3 coins from the player. On occasion, the volcano may not erupt at all.
