Hefty Goombas[1] are enemies in the Super Mario series. These Goombas are smaller than a Big Goomba but bigger than a common Goomba.
In Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Maker, Big Goombas are approximately the same size as Hefty Goombas, and the latter appearance borrows the same attribute of splitting into two regular Goombas when stomped.
History
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Hefty Goombas first appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are encountered in the World 1 Enemy Course and in World 8-2. Hefty Goombas split into two normal Goombas when stomped. They are the only large enemies that can be frozen by ice balls, but need to be Ground Pounded because their huge size prevents the player character from being able to lift them. Giant Goombas are shown to about twice as large as a Hefty Goomba, and they split into two Hefty Goombas when stomped.
New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
Hefty Goombas are enemies in New Super Mario Bros. U. They are encountered in the Goomba Enemy Course in Layer-Cake Desert as well as in the level Jungle of the Giants in Soda Jungle, appearing when the player jumps on a Big Goomba. Hefty Goombas act the same as in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Hefty Goombas are enemies in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. They are first encountered in The Sharp Trial: Launch to Victory. Hefty Goombas act same as in previous appearances.
