This is a list of glitches in Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Note: All names are conjectural unless otherwise specified.

Battle Glitches

Infinite Assist Trophies

To use this glitch, both the player and at least one opponent has to be playing as Isabelle. Then, they need to wait for an Assist Trophy to appear, and both grab it with their Fishing Rod special move at the same time. If done correctly (with one character reeling it in while the other's line is still attached), the player who successfully reeled in the Assist Trophy will continuously keep spawning copies of the character until they get hit, pushed into a blast zone or KOed.[1][2]

This doesn't work with a few Assist Trophies (like the Squid Sisters) and doesn't spawn in clones of a few others (like the Moon from Majora's Mask).

The glitch can also be done with other items too. If the player does the same thing with a Warp Star, they'll be trapped and unable to attack damage, whereas doing the same trick with a Hammer causes it to do no damage and removes the effect of the lower blast zone.

Shadow Characters

This glitch turns playable characters, Assist Trophies and items into shadows, remniscient of Dark Link from Super Smash Bros Melee. To use it, the player needs at least one third party controller without gyro/motion control functionality, and to pull off one of the two methods outlined below:

The Original Method

  1. Make the Pro Controller player one, and the third party one one player two.
  2. Start the game and begin a Sudden Death Match with the third party controller
  3. Do the same with the stage and character selection
  4. Once the match starts, go to the Home menu and select Controllers
  5. Now, change the order and make the third party controller player one
  6. Go back to the game, and use the third party controller to select your character
  7. Back in the game, pause and press down on the right joystick. This turns the screen black or blue

Then simply press down again to activate the glitch.[3]

The Simplified Method

  1. Start Smash with your joycons or pro controller
  2. Then return to the Home menu, and select Controllers icon
  3. Choose Change Grip/Order
  4. Connect a third party controller without motion control but with clickable analogue sticks (like Hori's Wired GameCube controller) in the first slot
  5. Then go back to the game
  6. Begin a match in any mode
  7. Then pause the game, and choose Camera Control
  8. And click the left stick

If done correctly, everything will turn black and the glitch will be activated.[4]

As mentioned, this will turn all characters, assist trophies and items into shadows, while leaving backgrounds and stages untouched.

Slingshot Crash

For this glitch, the player has to use either Villager or Isabelle, with their opponent using the other character. Then, they need to use their Slingshot special attack on their opponent, and their opponent needs to catch it with Pocket. Once that's done, if the other player releases the Slingshot attack afterwards, the game will crash. [5]

Gale Stab Crash

If the player uses a Mii Swordfighter with the following moveset:

  • Neutral Special: Shuriken
  • Side Special: Gale stab
  • Up Special: Stone Scabbard
  • Down Special: Reversal slash

Then uses Gale Stab while Duck Hunt's Wild Gunman move is active, the game will crash and reset to the home menu. [6] [7] [8]

Visual Glitches

Bigmin

If the player throws Pikmin at an opponent's Mother Brain Assist Trophy as Olimar, the Pikmin will grow in size along with Mother Brain.[9] However, these giant Pikmin are only different on a cosmetic level, and will return to normal size once they fall off Mother Brain/Mother Brain vanishes.
