Barbos
Barbos is a giant Lurchin and possibly the "mother" of most of the Lurchins encountered in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III.
History
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
Barbos first appears in Donkey Kong Country 3 as the boss of the area Razor Ridge, in a level called Barbos Barrier. Due to the fact Barbos lives underwater in a blood-red lake Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong can only fight Barbos by transforming into Enguarde the Swordfish.
Barbos first attacks the swordfish by sending her Lurchin children after him. Enguarde must smash these Lurchins into the spiked balls protecting Barbos. Once these balls are out of the way Enguarde can smash Barbos's soft body.
After being hit Barbos drops down and begins to shoot Shell Missiles at Enguarde. Enguarde must lure these Shell Missiles into the spiked balls protecting Barbos, once the spiked balls are out of the way, Enguarde can hit Barbos again.
Barbos drops down a level again and begins to shoot spikes at Enguarde. These spikes must be avoided and Barbos must be hit again. After three hits, Barbos will be defeated.
When Barbos is defeated, she releases the Bonus Coin (Bear Coin in rematches) that she stole. However, even when she's defeated, Barbos can still hurt Enguarde if he comes into contact with her.
In the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country 3, Barbos is moved to the new area, Pacifica. Kroctopus takes Barbos's place as the boss of Razor Ridge. In this version, it takes four hits to defeat Barbos, while in the Super Nintendo version it takes five. This is because during the attack where Barbos shoots her stingers, one of the three is cut.
Donkey Kong Land III
In Donkey Kong Land III Barbos returns as the boss of Cape Codswallop. and is fought in a level called Barbos Bastion. In this battle, the player, as Enguarde, must smash three Lurchins into Barbos's face to defeat her. Each time Barbos is hit, she shoots three Lurchin shells at the swordfish; these must be dodged, as they cannot be attacked.
