So, do you want to write for The 'Shroom? Well, you've come to the right place! Here are some steps that you should follow if you want to start writing for the paper.
- If you need to stray from the release schedule you agreed to when applying for any reason (such as going on vacation or handling an emergency off of the wiki), be sure to contact the Core 'Shroom Staff member that you submit your sections to: we will work something out.
- If you cannot submit your section for that month, but you have a reliable friend who can fill in for you, then absolutely ask them to provide us with a section in your stead and inform your relevant team director of the arrangement.
- Feel free to suggest new section ideas or even apply for an already filled position, for we don't mind two different perspectives on a similar subject.
- If you have any more questions about signing up and writing for The 'Shroom, please contact Hooded Pitohui.
The application form is as follows:
1.) Which position would you like to apply for?
2.) Writers have the choice to submit sections monthly, bi-monthly (every other month), or volunteer-based (one-time submission). Please select which section plan you would like to observe.
3.) The staff reserves the right to remove writers from their position if their actions reflect badly on The 'Shroom. Actions like these include extensive misbehavior on any part of the community. Do you accept this condition?
4.) Please write a full-length demo of your section. That way, we can have a bit of your work to decide if you can be on the team. Your demo section and all sections that follow must comply with our policies at The 'Shroom:Manual of Style. Failure to do so may result in the immediate rejection of your demo.
|
Please privately send your complete application to our Statistics Manager through the forums, IRC, or Discord. The Core Staff will have a week to review your application, and you will receive your results within a couple of days after the week passes. For sections which do not require you to sign up, you may send your section directly to the relevant team director. Team directors reserve the right to reject any sections which do not meet the minimum standards of quality outlined in The 'Shroom Manual of Style.

Fake News
|
"Wah, wah, WAAAH!?! FAKE news? Baloney! These are REAL news! 100% certified, truthful news of things happening in the Mushroom Kingdom RIGHT NOW, you ignorant schlub! How would you like it if I came to your home and said YOU didn't exist!? We cover everything here, from police reports, to weather forecasts, to obituaries. Sometimes there's even a TV guide. We get the real Mushroom Kingdom scoop to you! In fact, the only bit of FAKE news we have here are the advisories to not let a certain purple man into your homes. You can disregard that nonsense! People who wear purple are awesome and trustworthy!"

Palette Swap
|
"I have been promised food in exchange for describing this part of the paper, so here we go! First, the name "Palette Swap" is being grievously misused; there is no actual swapping of color palettes going on here. What this actually is about is showcasing and discussing arts and crafts. From glorious paint masterworks, to music and somesuch... All manner of art is shown, discussed, and evaluated here. It's like one of those galas where they stand around babbling about the newest painting collection or symphony, only without the guy walking around handing out snacks. Speaking of which..."

Pipe Plaza
|
"Well met! What we have here appears to be a factual news conglomerate. Announcements, statistics, general information about the Super Mario Wiki community and Nintendo... All of it appears to be here, hoo. If you're a restless youngster with nary a care, you might find this part of the newspaper rather dry and stuffy. But once you get to be my age, you will appreciate being well-informed. Anyhoo, I'm unsure where the pipes come in. Maybe the idea is to evoke thoughts of information shooting around in pneumatic tubes? What tomfoolery, though I guess it provides some levity."

"Fine! FINE! I'll explain the gimmick to this section! Though the genius of Critic Corner defies explanation... First, you must have an opinion! It can encompass essentially anything you desire, be it games, movies, books, hair salons, pieces of furniture, cats... All is fair as long as you can make it interesting! Then, you must line this opinion of yours up with good sources and information... and SPLART! You have yourself an exquisite column within Critic Corner! Just be sure to explain why your opinion is the way it is, so you don't just ramble incoherently like a lunatic! TA-DAH!"

Strategy Wing
|
""So like, it says here that Strategy Wing is the "analysis and application" section of the 'Shroom, whatever that means. It's purpose is to look into video games and examine various aspects of them. It has two attacks, both with a power of 6. The first one is about delving into games to lay bare facts about its mechanics, elements, history, or other information. The other will mercilessly pelt us with game tips and strategies. Watch out for the "good at video games" status effect. Man, this totally sounds like "write essays about video games here", you know? This wasn't a subject when I went to school."
