The 'Shroom:Issue 144/Fun Stuff
Staff Notes
Wew, I made it this month!
Yes, I've finally found the time to return to my outpost in The 'Shroom. Life gets pretty crazy sometimes, did you know that? In my chaos, I haven't even gotten the chance to welcome in Raregold and Geeky as our new 'Shroom Directors! They are both very dear friends of mine, and I'm very happy and excited to see where their leadership and careers take us. Unfortunately, I don't have much more time to talk, as I'm dead in the center of opening week for my school's Winter Show, The Laramie Project! It's been an empowering, heartfelt experience, and I'm very happy and fortunate to be a part of it.
Speaking of things you can be happy to be a part of, we're of course always accepting new writers, so make sure to check out the 'Shroom sign-up page to get more information! We hope to see you writing soon.
With that, I'm happy to announce one piece of news: LudwigVon (talk) has spearheaded the return of Guess Who!, a classic Fun Stuff staple. His contributions will be bi-monthly, so get excited to test your character trivia knowledge every other month!
That's all from me, so make sure to dive right in and enjoy this March issue!
Section of the Month
Congratulations to Chester Alan Arthur (talk) for leaping into the 1st place ranking, on his first go-around no less! Of course, accolades also go to FunkyK38 (talk) for another excellent section and first place position. Congrats to LudwigVon (talk) for taking second, and thank you to all of our writers, readers, and voters alike!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hi again everybody, and welcome to the March edition of Anagrams! This month I've decided to put together a bunch of Mario Super Sluggers anagrams for you to enjoy. I don't really have a lot more to say, apart from the usual if you have any ideas for themes of future sections or funny anagrams that you've found that I could incorporate into one, feel free to let me know either on my talk page or by sending me a PM on the forums. Other than that, get ready as I pitch you these anagrams!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. DECIPHER ACE NAG
2. RICE MYTHS
3. SLOWEST BRACE
4. REPEAL BOURBONS
5. SHADOW TROT

It's aMAZEing
Written by: Lakituthequick (talk)
Hello there! Time for It's aMAZEing!
In honour of Reggie Fils-Aimé, who recently announced to be retiring as president of Nintendo of America, let's review one of his famous quotes.
Couldn't have said that better myself. This month's maze is inspired by this quote, a purple Pikmin!
Do you have an idea for a maze you'd like to see? Leave a message on my talkpage or find me on the forums and send me a personal message, and your idea and name may be featured in a future episode!
How to play:
- Copy the image into your favourite art program (like Paint, Photoshop, GIMP, etc.)
- Click the line, pencil or brush tool and adjust the size as needed
- Draw your line through the maze from start to finish
- Zoom in and out as needed
Alternatively, print it out and use a pencil!

Hiding Koopas
Time for another Koopa hunting game! Are you ready? In any case, welcome to another edition of Hiding Koopas. Your Statistics Manager is here to deliver you another Koopa hunting game with a brand new artwork. The goal remains the same, and it consists of finding five Koopa Troopas in the artwork below. Can you find them? Let's see...
Are you a Yoshi fan? If so, you probably know that Yoshi's Crafted World is coming soon! For this occasion, I took the opportunity to hide five Koopa Troopas in beautiful artwork of the game to celebrate this.
Answer:
Did you manage to find them? In any case, thanks for playing, and come back next month!
Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
HOW TO PLAY
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case! You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case! Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down. Challenge round (optional): -Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less -Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help |

Trivia
Written by: Chester Alan Arthur (talk)
First month back, already Section of the Month winner. You wanna know why? 'Cause I exposed to the truth about those scoundrels, Blocky and Meta Knight, the truth nobody else wants to talk about. Anyways, did you know?
- That Next Level Games once worked on a Mario volleyball game?
- That in the Japanese version of Super Mario World Yoshi can eat the dolphins, but can’t in the international versions?
- That the enemy Reznor is named after Nine Inch Nails singer Trent Reznor?
- That Diddy Kong was originally going to be a redesigned Donkey Kong Jr.?
- That Bowser has a brother?
- That Kiddy Kong was the first playable Kong to not have the initials DK?
- That originally a Magikoopa (possibly Kamek) was going to be playable in Mario Kart 64?
Guess Who!
Hello 'Shroom readers. It's been a while since the last edition of Guess Who! I must admit that it was one of my favorite Fun Stuff sections back then, and for many of you considering how many times it won SOTM. So, I thought, why not bring it back? And here it is! I hope that you will enjoy my work on this section and that you will look forward to it each two months, considering my bi-monthly schedule.
We are in March, which means that Yoshi's Crafted World will soon be released, and frankly, I can't wait to play this game! So, here it is, this edition will have a theme, the Yoshi series. Will you be able to find all the characters with the clues I left you? Good luck!
Guess Who! - March 2019 |
---|
Yoshi series |
Round 1
- This character is able to walk over lava and spikes, which prove to be very useful for Yoshi.
- There is also younger versions of this character who help Yoshi to find secrets. Yoshi is also able to throw them like Yarn Balls.
- His name also appears in the title of one Yoshi game and has his own amiibo that was included in a bundle alongside that game.
Round 2
- This character’s weak point is the belly button.
- Her relationship with Yoshi becomes a little too personal in Yoshi's Woolly World. I guess she got tired of being hit on the belly button repeatedly.
- OH MY!
Round 3
- This enemy will not try to attack Yoshi, but will actually try to take a ride on its back. Seems like Yoshi's back is very popular.
- In Yoshi's New Island, if they hop on Yoshi's back, Yoshi will be colored purple. Well, you know what? Purple Yoshi doesn't even care!
- As if it was not enough, this will cause the game's controls to reverse.
Answers:
Round 1: Poochy!
Round 2: Naval Piranha!
Round 3: Grim Leecher! |
Did you succeed? Regardless, thanks a bunch for playing, and come again in May!
