The 'Shroom:Issue 127/Pipe Plaza
Director’s Notes
Boo readers! Welcome to Pipe Plaza, the 'Shroom team that gives out the best candy when you come knocking on our door. Just a hint, don't try the candy from Fake News, it's Fake Chew's.
The past month has been a bit hectic for me, swinging back into my university schedule, while still submitting articles to an LGBTQ-themed publication.
Sadly, Pipe Plaza only continues to shrink as last month was the last edition of Anniversary Announcements for the year, but don't worry, I have been assured that the section shall return next year.
And do stay tuned next month, as I do have a rather large announcement to make. Hope you enjoy reading Pipe Plaza this month, and see you next time!

Tip of the Month
When you leave a comment on a talk page, such as the Proposals page, article Talk pages, or a user's Talk page, you need to leave your name so your comment can be identified. Sure, you can just type your username without any coding, but it's easier if you leave a way to link back to your own user page. If you want to sign a comment without using a signature page, you can use the code {{User|Username}}, substituting your username where it says 'username.' It'll end up looking like this: FunkyK38 (talk). That way, others can refer back to your page and get to your talk page quickly.

Greetings everyone! Alex95 here to tell you all about an upcoming game and my thoughts about it. The Sonic the Hedgehog series has been picking up speed recently with several great games released over the past couple of years, including Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. Now the developers of those games are working on a new project titled Sonic Forces.
The story appears to be based around Dr. Eggman having already destroyed the world. I guess Sonic wasn't fast enough. But he's here now, and he's brought some help: Himself! Both modern Sonic and classic Sonic team up once more to take down Eggman and restore peace to the world. To avoid it becoming a Sonic Generations sequel, there are more characters joining up! Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, and you! For the first time in the Sonic series, you get to create an anthropomorphic hedgehog character of your own.
But how will your character fit into this world? While the other characters retain their abilities from the past games, you are outfitted with several gadgets to help you get around. Confirmed gadgets include grappling hooks, flamethrowers, and rockets used for double jumping. It also appears that the custom character will have Sonic's Homing Attack. Also, you can dress your character how you want! Will you dress the bare-minimum like Sonic, or will you be a fashionista like Amy?
Before you start thinking that it's your army against Eggman, you should know that Eggman is also bringing an army. Among the various robots he usually has, he's joined by several returning villains as well. Zavok from Sonic Lost World, Metal Sonic, and Chaos from Sonic Adventure are confirmed to be joining Eggman. Shadow the Hedgehog is also confirmed, though he'll have his own playable role in the form of free DLC. The villains, however, appear to be working under another force, known as Infinite.
If you've played Sonic Generations before (I haven't), the gameplay should feel familiar. Modern Sonic moves through three-dimensional levels and Classic Sonic moves through two-dimensional ones. As for the other characters, there's no gameplay I can find for them, so maybe Knuckles and Tails will move through levels akin to the ones in Sonic Adventures? Not too big of a stretch I think. I can't tell what restricted type of levels the custom character goes through, but it appears to be mainly three-dimensional ones at the moment. Considering the amount of gadgets they have to use, I'm sure they'd fit in any level.
Thoughts
I'm not the biggest Sonic fan. In fact, the most recent game in his series I have is Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for the GameCube. Still, this is a pretty cool direction for the series, mixing old and new together. Not sure how I feel about the custom character, but it's a nice way to mix things up. You can learn more about the game at the official site here, and you can look forward to the game releasing worldwide on November 7th, and in Japan on November 9th, for the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and the PC! But if you can't wait for that, there is an iOS game titled Sonic Forces: Speed Battle that may hold you over.
Poll Committee Discussion
Hey 'Shroomers! Shokora here with the pleasure to present you with this month's Poll Committee Discussion. This is where we reflect on the results of our polls from the past month. I almost didn't get this section in on time because I was too busy trying to not look at Super Mario Odyssey spoilers. But anyhow, here it is. Enjoy!

Analysis
Which change in the remake of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga are you most excited for? (DragonFreak (talk), September 10th, 2017)
I've never seen so much mixed reception in the lead-up to a Mario remake/port! From Koopas now no longer having flight suits, to our beloved Bink being reduced to a generic NPC. Apprehensions aside, we asked visitors about which change were they most excited for, and the new Search For Bowser side quest took the top spot by a mile, with just over 40% of the votes. Second of all, users were looking forward to the upgraded soundtrack, graphics and controls using the 3DS hardware. I've heard a lot of people welcoming the remixed and high-quality battle and overworld themes, however the mostly-borrowed assets from Dream Team and Paper Jam, as well as the aforementioned changes to individual character sprites, has been a colourful mixed bag of opinions. R.I.P. Bink, 2003-2016.
In what direction would you like to see the Mario series continue? (The Pyro Guy (talk), September 17th, 2017)
I was excited to see the results for this one, because Mario is now such a diverse series. We've got party games, racing games, RPG games, 2D sidescrollers, the list goes on. Were people as excited about playing New Super Mario Bros. U as they are for Super Mario Odyssey? It's clear that fans want to see more core installments of the Mario series, and that direction gained about 35% of the votes. Close to 20% of people want to see different series with new concepts. Complete game-changers have generally become classics in the Mario series. Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario 64, Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Galaxy have each established a completely new way to experience Mario games, and their mechanics and concepts are still used throughout contemporary games. Thirdly, many users also wanted to see more crossovers with other franchises. But who would have thought that Mario would be seen to cross over with the Rabbids in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle? It's such an unlikely combination, and it's seemed to work! The game has been met with high enthusiasm from critics and fans.
What is your opinion on crossover characters joining Mario games? (Shokora (talk), September 24th, 2017)
This is my own submission, and it was created primarily with this year's Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle in mind. More than half of voters were quite stern about not having crossover characters being overused and replacing our core Mario series characters. Our second majority of voters were very enthusiastic about seeing characters from other series in our Mario games, and personally I think it's a good chance to introduce younger players to different franchises. A very small minority were vehemently against crossover characters of any kind, which means they're not Super Smash Bros. fans.
What classic Mario game would you like to see remade for the Switch? (Henry Tucayo Clay (talk), October 1, 2017)
Our most voted-on poll for this month, with 2,652 votes. Many of the votes were likely cast according to their favourite classic games of Mario past. However, another consideration might be which of these classic games could make the best use of the Switch's motion controls. Super Mario Sunshine took just about one in every four votes. While Mario is blasting himself in the air with FLUDD, imagine how intuitive and precise it could be to steer Mario by holding up the joy-con controllers. Could this make the Pachinko Game less painful? Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is often referred to by faithful fans as the best Paper Mario game out there. I could really see this game being ported to the Switch's beautiful display. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and Super Mario 64 were both very close to tying at third. One of the unique things about Super Mario RPG was the three-quarter perspective and charming art style. I'd be really curious to see how this would be interpreted on the widescreen Switch. And obviously Super Mario 64 has stood the test of time and has been widely adopted by the younger generations of players. I'd personally love to say "So Long, Gay HD Bowser."
How do you feel about Princess Daisy’s inclusion in Super Mario Run? (Stargazing (talk), October 8th, 2017)
Almost 60% of voters were either enthusiastic or somewhat partial to Daisy's playable debut in a 2D Mario game, whereas very few voters are against it. Having played through thirty stages of Remix 10 to unlock the "lively princess from Sarasaland" took me a lot of time, but I've found that she is a useful character to have available. She has a double-jump ability which allows her to gain an extra height boost while in mid-air, and this has certainly made some of the Challenge Coin tasks much easier to complete. If we look at all the other playable Super Mario Run characters, their abilities are all staples from past games, such as Toad's speed and Peach's float ability from Super Mario Bros. 2, Luigi's high jump and Yoshi's flutter kick. I'm positive that akin to other character's classic abilities, Daisy's double-jump will too become a recurring ability, and there's little doubt we'll see Daisy return in future 2D games. Now I want Tatanga back.

Hello, readers! I'm your Spotlight manager and Pipe Plaza Director, Yoshi876. Welcome to Retro Feature, a section in which I delve deep into the archives to bring you the best blasts from the past.
We have talked about Coincollector a couple of times in the past, but as this is the last time that I will be writing Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner, I thought it'd be a good idea to feature one of Coincollector's Wheel Tips Corner. And thankfully for me, he also made it Halloween themed, so it looks like I can make this section Halloween-themed as well.
Welcome to Before getting to the the point, I want to tell you we had an interesting September this year, first because it was Mario’s 25th Anniversary (Congratulations Mario!) and second, because Nintendo told us all about the hotly‐anticipated Nintendo 3DS. A (very Oo) long list of games is set to appear on Nintendo’s new little wonder and one of them is the expected untitled Mario Kart. Another very brief video of the game was seen, but it is nothing different to what we’ve seen in the E3 and unfortunately its release date wasn’t confirmed (sobs). On the other hand we have confirmed the release date of the 3DS, which will be in 2011’s first quarter (why Nintendo, why…?) and will cost around $300 (Despite the “overrated” price, this one will print money too, lol). Now, it’s time to take our karts and drive through a race course. What is that nice place to race during a gloomy night over an old pier with many Boos laughing and singing “trick or treat” called? As a clue, it appeared again in Mario Kart Wii. Yeah, it’s Ghost Valley 2. This course might look kinda short (in fact it is, if you’re an expert) and simple but it has a lot of surprises that you may not have noticed. First off, the course has many 90 degree turns, but at least there are walls protecting many parts of the course. But not really. If you hit those old walls, they will fall off. Therefore you can make a mistake, but don’t do it for a second time or you’ll pay for it, going to the dark void and wasting a lot of precious seconds. Another surprise that this course has is a small shortcut found in the second corner of the track. As you can see there is a small piece of wood rising over the floor to make a small jump and pass the gap down there, but a simple jump won’t be enough, so you need to do a trick or get boosted by some object like a mushroom to cross that gap successfully. But be careful about going too fast, as once you have done the shortcut and put the wheels on the ground you might end up falling into the void. This course also has haunted Item Boxes that move around in the road. It is easiest to get them by drifting, but even so, it can be hard to do as those item boxes like to move into the course’s corners. Near the end of the course there is a boost pad that will give you an advantage to end the lap quickly., Just try not to catch the yellow speed bump right after the pad because that thing can ruin your boost. Just as I said before, the course seems short (but becomes shorter if you got these tips) and there are very few possibilities to drop from your current place in the race… well, unless your opponent has some item that can stop you when you less expect it, that’s for sure… >:) That’s all for Mario Kart Wheel Tips Corner of this month guys, and remember to look both ways before crossing the road, or else a Boo will steal your wallet.
