The Hole in the Desert is the fourth and final story mission of the Sand Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey. The mission's objective is to defeat Knucklotec. While this is the next objective, the Sand Kingdom is set at night, and Chinchos constantly appear in the main map's sand.
Layout
The mission begins at the Odyssey, and Mario must trek to the hole below the Inverted Pyramid and drop inside. Mario can meet Jaxi at Tostarena Town; paying it 30 coins so that Mario can ride with it makes navigating the desert faster and safer. After landing in the Underground Temple, Mario must navigate ice platforms with Goombas. Some Blocks are in the way and cannot be jumped over due to large pillars. These can be cleared out by using Hat Launchers to activate Pulse Beams. The next section has two Goomba Towers and more ice. There is an optional coin trail accessed by Hat Launchers but it activates two Pulse Beams. Moving platforms lead to the next area, with large chasms requiring Mario capture Bullet Bills to cross while avoiding moving pillars. Past this is the Deepest Underground, where a final Bullet Bill can take Mario to the distant arena. There, Mario must fight Knucklotec. Winning grants him its Multi Moon.
