Template:Level Stop & Go Station is the ninth level of the popular Donkey Kong game, Donkey Kong Country. It is also the fourth level in the Monkey Mines area.

This unique level takes place inside a mine shaft. Almost every part of the level is guarded by the invincible and incredibly fast Rockkroc sentinels. The only way past the Rockkrocs is to deactivate them. To do this, the Kongs must hit the 'GO' barrels to switch them to 'STOP'. This causes the green light in the mine to turn into a red one, and while this red light is on, the Rockkrocs are unable to move, rendering them harmless. However, the light only stays red for a limited amount of time. Fortunately for the Kongs, this is the only level in the game where the Rockkrocs are found. This level also marks the first appearance of the Klaptrap enemies. Besides these foes, no other enemies appear in Stop & Go Station.

At the beginning of the level, the heroes will need to walk through the mine shaft and defeat a Klaptrap to find a 'Go' barrel. The monkeys should hit it so the barrel says 'Stop', causing each Rockkroc to crouch down and become harmless. So, the monkeys will then have to run through the area before the foes get back up. Hitting another barrel nearby to stop the Rockkrocs, the heroes will need to jump up several ledges and beat a lone Klaptrap to find a place where they will need to bounce on a tire to reach the next 'Go' barrel. Once they hit it, the group should race over a Rockkroc and an abyss to find another barrel to hit. When the heroes touch the barrel, the zombie-like foes will, as usual, take cover, allow the monkeys to progress through the level safely over a wide abyss. After this is passed, they will have to hit another barrel and head over a small gap to meet two more Rockkrocs. The monkeys should run away from them if they are moving, and then touch another barrel over an abyss. Once hit, the Kongs will be free to ride up a platform safely and make it on a high ledge. From there, they will need to hit a nearby 'Go' barrel and hop up some more ledges to dodge Rockkrocs. Afterwards, the group will be able to grab the letter O in an abyss and then hit the nearby Star Barrel.

Now about halfway through the level, the monkeys will need to run across an area full of Rockkrocs by hitting a 'Go' barrel, making display the word, 'Stop'. Passing this area will take the monkeys to a parade of three Klaptraps. The foes should be defeated easily. After this, the group will need to jump up on a ledge and push a tire under another barrel. Bouncing on it, the heroes should hit into the barrel and put the Rockkrocs asleep, allowing them to hop over a set of three occupied platforms.

From this area, the Kongs will be able to now grab the letter N between two low areas, and then head onto two moving platforms to cross an abyss, hitting the 'Go' barrel as they travel. Soon, the group will enter an area full of more Rockkrocs than any other area. So, they will need to hit a barrel in a corner to stop the foes and run to the next barrel before they get back up. Once this barrel is hit, the apes will need to push another tire under the area's third 'Go' barrel to make it display 'Stop', putting the Rockkrocs down again. From there, the heroes should climb up some ledges, still avoiding Rockkrocs. Once up on the final ledge, Donkey and Diddy will find the letter G, as well as the level's exit.

Bonus Levels

  • After the level's Star Barrel, the Kongs can notice a barrel laying in plain sight. They should pick it up and carry it through the area, hitting 'Go' barrels when necessary. A wall is near the second Rockkroc in the area. The primates need to blow this wall away with their barrel to find the entrance to the Bonus Level. There, they have to shoot in a square path with four barrels, collecting many bananas on the way. In the center of the large area, they can grab a Banana Bunch. Once the group collects all they need, they are able to exit from a nearby opening.
  • Once the primates exit the first Bonus Level, they can discover a short trail of three bananas in mid-air. They should walk a little farther to find a tire. With the bouncy tire, the heroes should make their way to where the banana trail is and bounce above the top of it. A Barrel Cannon is hidden above them that shoots them to the second Bonus Level. In this special level, the Kongs need to shoot upwards through a barrel that moves in a horizontal path to collect some prizes in the air. After shooting out of it, they fall back downwards. If they miss the barrel upon trying to land in it, they are forced back into the main level.

Warp Barrel

  • A Warp Barrel is located at the start of the stage. If the primates are to go backwards at the start, they enter it and are sent near the end of the level, where they can find a sign that indicates that the level is almost complete.

Photograph (Game Boy Advance version only)

  • The photograph in this level can be found in the last abyss before the letter O. A super-jump is required to reach it. The photograph gives the Kongs a picture of a Rockkroc for their scrapbook.
