Darkmess is a type of dark matter that drives the plot of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Produced by Cursa and spread across the galaxy, it factors heavily in its pursuit of the Sparks and causes debilitating weather effects on every planet it lands on, such as shrouding Beacon Beach in a permanent rainstorm or Pristine Peaks in a brutal blizzard.
Forms
- Darkmess Manta, a giant manta ray seen only at the beginning of the game; serves as a one-time tutorial location
- Darkmess Bowser, a clone of Bowser formed from Darkmess[1]
- Darkmess Rabbid Mechakoopas, copies of Rabbid Mechakoopas that are summoned by Darkmess Bowser
- Darkmess Edge, a clone of Edge formed from Darkmess[1]
- Darkmess Eyes, which possess an enemy or element and must be destroyed to progress[2]
- Darkmess Eggs, egg-like objects found on the field, can be picked up and thrown at Darkmess Eyes to destroy them
- Darkmess Gates, which must be destroyed to progress and can only be destroyed with Bob-ombs
- Darkmess Taproots, which contain multiple Darkmess Eyes that all have to be attacked within the same turn in order to destroy the Taproot
- Darkmess Portals, which summon an enemy the next turn and can be destroyed[2]
- Darkmess Thorns, which block the path on the overworld and can only be cleared by using the upgraded Wave Power on their weak point
- Darkmess Dams, which must be destroyed to progress and can only be destroyed with magic vials found during battle
- Darkmess Puddles[2]
- Darkmess Tentacles[2]
- Purified Darkmess Energy Crystal, the result of destroying Darkmess Tentacles and used to power the WM ARC to reach other worlds; two are found on each planet[2]
- Darkmess Dimension, the location in which Cursa resides, the portal to it is located at the Beacon of the Comet Observatory, at Cursa's stronghold
