Peek-a-Boo is a 1-vs-3 minigame found in Mario Party DS. Its name is a pun on Peekaboo, and it takes place in one of the rooms of a mansion.
Introduction
In this minigame, the wanted sign on the top screen shows which type of Boo to capture depending on what the Boo is wearing or its appearance. On the touch screen, a Boo that looks like the one on the wanted poster pops out from under the table. The Boo is noticed with a bright orange exclamation mark (!) appearing over his head and hides back shortly after that. The minigame then begins.
Gameplay
The solo player has a larger screen than the other three players to scan for the Boos, while the other three players acquire a smaller screen that browses slower so they have to work together.
Both sides' objective is to catch the Boos until there are no Boos in the area. There is an odd number of Boos that the players have to capture lurking in the area.
There is one particular obstacle; namely, objects in the room that Boos can go in and hide from players' eyesights for a moment. Another challenge the players will face is that they have to find one of the Boos that has the same appearance as the one on the wanted poster. If a player taps the wrong Boo, the Boo comes up into the screen, closely blocking off with its face for a quick moment, then moves fast for a moment.
After the last Boo is captured, the players count the Boos that they captured. Whichever side gathers the most Boos in the game wins. Due to there being an odd number of Boos and there being no time limit, ties are impossible.
Controls
- – Shift view
- – Tap a Boo to catch it
In-game text
- Rules – "Tap as many Boos that match the target type as you can. You'll have to shift your view of the floor as you scan the crowd for them."
- Tips
- Solo (1 player): "Your view is much larger than the other team's views. But there are three of them and only one of you!"
- Group (3 players): "The single player's view is much larger than your team's views. Fortunately, there are three of you, so divide up the floor for your search!"
