Twist and Route is a 4-Player and Duel minigame that appears in Mario Party DS. Its name is a pun on the title of the song "Twist and Shout."

Introduction[edit]

The camera shows the playfield on an assembly table before moving down towards the players' windup cars at the starting line as the minigame starts.

Gameplay[edit]

Each racer has to wind up the mini-car; the player must do this by using the stylus to perform clockwise circles on the bottom screen. Once fully wound, the car propels forward for a while depending on how well it was wound up, and the player must steer it using the direction pad or Y Button and A Button buttons. If the car slows to a slop, the player must use the stylus to wind it up again. The track is filled with various obstacles that block the road or slow cars down, such as plated cogs, bolts, clock plates, mini-watches, assembly pieces, and various tools. The first player who reaches the finish line wins. If both players reach the finish line at the same time in the Duel variant, or the time limit expires, the result is a tie.

Controls[edit]

  • +Control Pad left or right Y Button A Button – Steer
  • Stylus – Wind clockwise

In-game text[edit]

  • Rules"Race to the finish in your windup car. You'll have to wind it up often, because driving the car and running across obstacles will use up its power."
  • Tips"Your car is out of power when you see arrows on the Touch Screen. You can wind it up only when the arrows appear, so give it a good crank."
