Banktoad is a green Toad from Super Mario Galaxy, who is a member of the Toad Brigade. He has a great love for treasure and can often be found in many different galaxies where he can usually be seen digging for coins.
History
Super Mario Sunshine
Banktoad first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine, where he is one of the five young Toads that accompany Mario, Princess Peach, and Toadsworth on their vacation to Isle Delfino. Upon arrival, the group finds the island a mess. Soon after, the villain Shadow Mario appears and kidnaps Peach. This causes the Toads extreme sadness and worry. The Toads provide no help, as they spend most of their time in Delfino Plaza. After finishing the game and saving Peach, Banktoad and the others finally enjoy their vacation.
Super Mario Galaxy
In Super Mario Galaxy, Banktoad and the other four Toads from the previous game have formed the Toad Brigade. During the Star Festival, Bowser attacks the Mushroom Kingdom and kidnaps Peach, with Luigi and the Toad Brigade getting abducted into space as well, luckily Mario finds the Toad Brigade in the Honeyhive Galaxy and brings them to the Comet Observatory where they, along with the Lumas construct Starshroom spaceships which they use to travel across the universe in order to help Mario find the Power Stars. Banktoad can often be found in certain galaxies where he can usually be seen exploring, digging for coins utilizing his pickax or helping Mario on his quest.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
During his travels, Mario collects a lot of Star Bits. The player can deposit Star Bits with this banker (he appears after the player visits Spin-Dig Galaxy) on a regular basis. Banked Star Bits collect interest, which comes in handy when the player needs to make a withdrawal to feed the Hungry Lumas that Mario encounters on the World Map.
Banked Star Bits transfer across save files, so if players start a new game, they can keep all the Star Bits that they have in the bank. The Banktoad's appearance also changes, depending on how many Star Bits Mario gives to him. He can only hold up to 9999 Star Bits, however.
- 0-999 Star Bits: Banktoad holds a silver star bit with both his hands.
- 1000-1999: He wears glasses with his hands empty.
- 2000-3999: He begins carrying a round shield with the image of a crown on the front and a spear nearly twice as tall as himself.
- 4000-5999: Banktoad slings a pickax over his left shoulder.
- 6000-7999: He puts on goggles and a snorkel.
- 8000-9998: Banktoad attaches the flashlight part of a miner's helmet to a strap he places around his head.
- 9999: Banktoad remains in his miner outfit.

Trivia
- Like Mailtoad, Banktoad wasn't given a name or a real occupation until a Super Mario Galaxy game. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, he was finally given the name Banktoad.
