The Mushroom Boy in his shop.

The Mushroom Boy is a Toad from Rose Town that lived in Seaside Town during the events of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. The young Rose Towner opened his own specialty shop in the village by the sea. Instead of selling items, weapons, etc., the Mushroom Boy trades special items for rare Mushrooms. However, these Mushrooms could only be retrieved from Forest Maze (other Mushrooms found throughout the game would not suffice). Unfortunately for adventurers such as Mario, normal and special Mushrooms all look alike. The only way to tell them apart is by ingesting said Mushrooms. As such, adventurers had to return any Mushrooms they picked to the Mushroom Boy, who would then use his refined palette to determine whether a Mushroom was rare or not. Rare Mushrooms would be rewarded with items, while regular Mushrooms would not be compensated.

The Mushroom Boy, along with the other residents of Seaside Town, were held hostage by the Smithy Gang during Yaridovich's occupation of the city. The residents of the village were eventually saved by Mario and his party.

Trivia

  • Despite being named the Mushroom Boy, this Toad is actually a young man.
