Seesaw Shrooms[1] are a type of Mushroom Platform in New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. U. Like a teeter-totter, Seesaw Shrooms tilt when a player character stands on their cap. They otherwise appear static or subtly sway. Enemies and objects do not affect the balancing of the platforms. Seesaw Shrooms contrast with tilting mushrooms, which sway back and forth on their own volition.

History

New Super Mario Bros.

World 4-2
Mario above a Seesaw Shroom in World 4-2

Seesaw Shrooms appear only in the sky-themed level World 4-2. In this game, they have purple caps with yellow spots. Standing on one causes the stalk to also shift slightly in the direction the cap angles. They are of varying widths and heights, and some have Goombas or red Koopa Troopas walking on their caps. The second Star Coin of the level occurs underneath one of the Seesaw Shrooms and it can be collected if the mushroom is tilted rightward. A Red Ring in this level causes Red Coins to appear among a cluster of varyingly heighted Seesaw Shrooms.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

In New Super Mario Bros. U and its reissue, Seesaw Shrooms are orange with a visible pivot at the center of their cap. They appear in different sizes and can be almost as wide as the screen. Seesaw Shrooms are encountered in the level of the same name and Template:World-link.

Seesaw Shrooms are one of the few objects to not appear in New Super Luigi U, but a narrower blue variant appears in the ice-themed level Cooligan Shrooms.
