Polar Bears are a species of bear with white fur that first appears in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

History

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

In the episode "The Bird! The Bird!", when Luigi tries to get out of climbing the dangerous snowy mountain, Mario tells him he can stay there and become "lunch" to the polar bears. Hearing that, Luigi follows his brother and Princess Toadstool in fear.

In the episode "Koopa Klaus", after King Koopa is beaten and left on a floating iceberg, he laments on how can it get any worse, only to discover an angry polar bear on the iceberg.

Super Mario Kodansha manga

In the Super Mario Land 3 volume of the Super Mario Kodansha manga, seven polar bears aid King Tetris on the icy Tetris Shima. They first help King Tetris in tossing Tetriminos at Mario, Luigi, and Peach. After Chanchako helps them to clear the blocks, King Tetris retreats inside the island, while two polar bears use their ice skates to separate the section where Mario and his friends are standing off the island. Chanchako tries to stop King Tetris from escaping by jumping at him, but two polar bears kick him off.

During the Ice Hockey Tetris match, King Tetris asks three polar bears to help him on the rink, leaving the remaining four on the reserve bench. Seeing they are about to lose, King Tetris orders his polar bears to use their clone technique, but Peach quickly notices that the four reserves have disappeared. Mario and his team accuse King Tetris of cheating, who reveals that his polar bears minions are just Tetris Ningen in disguise, which the Mario team uses as Tetriminos to finish the match and win.

Donkey Kong Country series

In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, three of the Brothers Bear are polar bears: the twins Benny and Björn, and the mountain climber Blizzard. In the Game Boy Advance remake, Blizzard is instead a grizzly bear. Benny was also considered to be one, but was ultimately left as a polar bear.

In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, one of the generals of the Snowmads and the second to last boss is a polar bear named Bashmaster.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon / Luigi's Mansion 2 HD

In Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and its Nintendo Switch port, inside the Chalet of Secret Mine, a polar bear rug is set by the fireplace, covering the secret elevator shaft for the mines. Luigi can tug its tail with the Poltergust 5000 to reveal a Gold Greenie hidden inside, that will cause the rug to growl.

Minecraft

In the Minecraft Super Mario Mash-up, Polar Bears (as capitalized in-game) are one of the few mobs to not have a Super Mario counterpart, with the only difference from the main game being a differently textured fur.

WarioWare: Get It Together!

In WarioWare: Get It Together!, polar bears with human-like fists appear in the microgame Break the Ice, where they repeatedly punch at the ice blocks that the player must move within range of their punches to win the microgame.
