Tip of the Month
Start the New Year off with some tips to help you land the section you want on the 'Shroom!
1. Spelling and grammar matter. Period. The Core Staff is more likely to reject your article if it's littered with mistakes. Make sure you proofread!
2. Give us specific details! Especially if you're writing for Critic Corner, saying "I liked this game because of the pretty graphics" is not enough! What stages? Which parts of the graphics? "I liked World 6-3 for it's gorgeous background of a multicolored mystical mountain" is better!
3. Length is also important, depending on the section. If it's a short one like this, you don't have to write a novel, but you do need to give us a good gauge of the average size of your section. If it's too short, there is often not enough content there to make the section really stand out. If you give us too much, however, it can get boring. Have a friend read your article before you send it in and get their honest opinion.
4. Proper coding is a must. I recommend that you type up your article, then paste it onto your user page or talk page (without saving edits, of course) to preview how it will look published. Good wiki coding gets major points.
5. Show that you care. Make us really believe that you want this job. We want to see your passion for the section, so make sure you show us how much you want the job!
Above all else, if you don't make it on your first try, ask the director of the team you applied for for more tips. They should be able to enlighten you on what you should improve on!

Wildgoosespeeder (talk) | GIF vs. PNG Sprites: What to Keep/Delete. A proposal to choose which sprites between the GIF format or PNG format should be kept, and which should be deleted. The proposer argues that it is redundant to have both a static PNG and animated GIF of the same enemy uploaded for the bestiary. |

Toadette the Achiever (talk) | Expand the "Outcome template" rule to appeal outcomes. A proposal to expand the Outcome template to appeal outcomes from MarioWiki:Appeals. The proposer argues that introducing a template for the appeal outcomes could simplify the archiving of the appeals system. The proposer also argues that the Super Mario Wiki already has this kind of template for proposal outcomes, and there is no particular reason to not make it for appeal outcomes. |

DKPetey99 (talk) | Split Expresso from Expresso (Donkey Kong Country 2). A proposal to split Expresso from the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest into his own page. The proposer argues that in the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 2, Cranky Kong said that he bought a new ostrich which means they are two different characters despite both ostriches sharing the same name and look. |

DKPetey99 (talk) | Split Category:Super Mario 64 into Category:Super Mario 64 and Category:Super Mario 64 DS. A proposal to split Category:Super Mario 64 into Category:Super Mario 64 and Template:Fakelink. The proposer argues that they are two different games and that Super Mario 64 DS brings new features and for those reasons, this game should have its own category. |

LudwigVon (talk) | Delete Beehive and move Beehive (item) to Beehive. A proposal to delete the Beehive article. The proposer argues that the article has a partconjecture template and a rewrite template because it needs to be about a concise topic and there is no specific beehive to talk about. The proposer therefore suggests moving Template:Fakelink to Beehive after the deletion. |

Andymii (talk) | Split Purple Coin from Super Mario Run and Purple Coin from Super Mario Galaxy. A proposal to split Purple Coin into Template:Fakelink and Template:Fakelink. The proposer argues that just because both coins are purple doesn't make them the same item and that the developers of Super Mario Run probably just picked three colors for their bonus coins and so they aren't referencing Super Mario Galaxy's Purple Coin in any way. |

Toadette the Achiever (talk) | Split Pink Coin into Pink Coin (Super Mario Maker) and Pink Coin (Super Mario Run). A proposal to split Pink Coin into Pink Coin (Super Mario Maker) and Pink Coin (Super Mario Run). Projects Seeking Contributors
Hey, and welcome to a new edition of Projects Seeking Contributors. This is a monthly section which summarizes the latest projects, collaborations and important discussions which concern the MarioWiki. All readers, regardless of experience or position within our community, are invited to share their opinions and valuable input on the following projects and discussions.
All projects are organized under three different headers, as presented below. Each header contains a neat table which provides the name of the topic concerned, with a brief summary of what that topic is about and what you can do to help. The sections are further split into projects being discussed on the wiki or the Template:Color-link-piped respectively.
Projects Seeking Contributors
The following are a selection of projects or special requests which are taking place on wiki talk pages. Please see this page for a complete list.
Topic | Description |
---|---|
Help us upload and list any "Game Over" screenshots which are missing from the article. | |
Players of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door are asked to double check how a described glitch is performed. Ideally it should also be added to the article's list. | |
A screenshot showing the "SPD-Up" status effect in the game Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story has been requested. | |
Help source the original article title "Power Throw" from the Wario series, which has since been moved to "Mega Toss" as seen in a more recent game appearance. | |
Help us format the reception section of Paper Mario: Sticker Star with a proper table, as per MarioWiki:Reception and sales. | |
Help us provide a reliable source for Scott Burns voicing Bowser in Super Mario Galaxy 2. | |
Help us find the correct Australian release date of Super Smash Bros. | |
Help clarify the relationship between "Softnica" and "Pax Softnica". It has been requested that a user who is fluent in Japanese should provide a translation of several given webpages, which may contain information of assistance. | |
It has been suggested that TOSE Software Co. may have developed Yoshi's Safari. Any users who can confirm this with a reliable source have been invited to respond to this discussion. |
The following have been taken from the Template:Color-link-piped.
Topic | Description |
---|---|
The article List of Yoshi designs in Yoshi's Woolly World is currently missing images from several different amiibo characters. Help us fill them in. | |
Help us source missing data on vehicle statistics and item probabilities from the Mario Kart series of games. | |
Recently, users have been gathering character and item description from the back of official trading card sets, which include Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy. Help us by reviewing the list of wanted descriptions, and post a comment with the description of any trading cards that you may own. | |
A translation has been requested for some "KC Deluxe" Japanese manga content. | |
Individual world missions, such as those seen in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy, should be split into separate articles as per policy. Check out which missions still require an article, and help fulfill this goal. |
Discussions Seeking Input
The following are a selection of discussions on the wiki which are in need of input or clarification from other users. Please see this page for a complete list.
Topic | Description |
---|---|
Provide input on including information about Yoshi breathing fire in the Yoshi's Island series of games, rather than just having the Super Mario 64 DS info on the article. | |
Discuss some potential coverage for the list of missable content page. | |
Due to its extremely large size, Gallery:Mario may need to be split up into multiple gallery pages. Help discuss a solution. | |
Provide input on whether the North American magazine line "Nintendo Force" is officially licensed by Nintendo, and whether it should receive an article. | |
Thousand-Year Door |
Discuss how the red book seen in the game's intro should be covered by the wiki. |
Discuss whether the Shell Helmet article should be rewritten as a transformation of Mario ("Shell Mario"), rather than the conjecturally-named power up object. | |
It has been suggested that StreetPass Mii Plaza should be merged with list of Mario references in video games and Nintendo 3DS. | |
Discuss whether Category:Super Mario Bros. 3 Species is necessary. | |
Provide input on whether the unrevisitable locations article should be moved to a different title. | |
Discuss how information about a secret "Challenge Mode" should covered as part of the game Wario's Woods. |
The following have been taken from the Template:Color-link-piped.
Topic | Description |
---|---|
A discussion has recently been raised on changing the wiki's logo: contribute your input on the proposed designs! | |
Help provide your input on new ideas to redesign a group of page banners used on the wiki. | |
Share your thoughts about having wiki articles which describe technical in-game concepts, such as "sequence breaking". | |
Discuss which individual subjects may be eligible for an individual article, rather than exclusively remaining on the "list of implied" pages. |
Pinned Projects
These are long-running projects, areas of discussion or collaborations which are continuously being worked on towards achievement. They will feature in this section every month.
Topic | Description |
---|---|
The "Holy Grails" is a list of elusive article subjects, where information is extremely difficult to find. Please take a look at the list, and let us know if you are able to provide us with information on any of these subjects. | |
Check out this month's edition of The 'Shroom Spotlight. It brings attention to a small group of articles which need improvement. Each of the articles are normally taken from a different improvement category, such as rewriting an article or adding more images. So there is always something for everyone's interests and abilities. | |
Stubs are articles or sections which are currently too short due to missing information. We invite you to take a look at the category, and contribute content to any subjects that you may be familiar with. | |
Be sure to check the Proposals page (as well as any current talk page proposals) where you can vote for, and give your opinions on proposed changes to the wiki. Such as new policies and features, splits and merges of articles, and deletions. |
And that concludes a new edition of Projects Seeking Contributors. I hoped you enjoyed viewing the section. If you had any comments or suggestions towards improving the section, please contact me through my talk page, or alternatively feel free to send me a personal message. My goal is to continuously improve the section's presentation.
Thank you!
– Shokora
Poll Committee Discussion
Written by Andymii (talk) and the Poll Committee
Welcome to Poll Committee Discussion! I’m Andymii, the Vice-Chairperson of the Poll Committee. The last time I wrote this section was nearly a year ago. I’m excited to be writing again, especially since due to timing, I get to review the unusually high amount of six polls this month!
Please Continue Submitting Ideas!
Everything is under control as of now, and more free than ever to take poll ideas submitted from the general public. Please know that Tucayo and I read through each submission personally. Analysis
What is your opinion on ports and remakes? – Like most people who voted, I feel that ports (such as Virtual Console) are a wonderful way for newer generations to play older games. Of course, not all old games stand the test of time; understandably, many people said that it largely depended on the game.
Who is your favorite party member in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door? – I haven’t played TTYD before, like the vast majority of voters. Besides that, a majority of the votes went to Yoshi. From what I’ve seen on his MarioWiki page, Yoshi is a great convenience, most prominently being able to transport Mario around the map faster, along with being able to cross gaps. Yoshi’s speed makes him anything but situational; instead of being used in solely gimmicky situations, he is useful throughout the game.
Do you have an account on the wiki? If not, would you consider creating one? – Unsurprisingly, the majority of our voters are unregistered MarioWiki users. However, around 26% of voters expressed interest in creating an account in the future. The poll also shows that a small amount of banned users (at least 20) were still visiting the sight.
Which of these Mario games released in 2016 do you want for the holidays? – Hopefully everyone got the gift they wanted! A near equal amount of people wanted the 3DS port of Super Mario Maker and Paper Mario: Color Splash. Just as many people were not interested in any Mario games, most likely being disappointed in the 2016 lineup. Hilariously last is Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge. After all, pretty much every game with “amiibo” in its title means that it will be incredibly tedious.
Should Miis get more appearances in Mario games? – More than half of voters supported Miis being in Mario games in some form, although many wanted them only in the spinoffs. Personally, I think that Miis are a silly way for the player himself to be reflected in-game; with this mentality, playing with them becomes much more fun.
Which character do you use the most in Super Mario 64 DS? – This is another game I have not played (I’ve played the original on Virtual Console). To the voters who had played the game, Luigi was the most popular, most likely due to his comfortable control and strengths. Luigi controls essentially like Mario, except he can jump higher and longer. He can even briefly walk on water!
That's all the analysis I've got for now. Thank you for reading this month's Poll Committee Discussion, and we'll be back next month with Mariofan169 (talk). Thanks for reading!

Hello, readers! I'm your Spotlight manager and Pipe Plaza Director, Yoshi876. Welcome to Retro Feature, a section in which I delve deep into the archives to bring you the best blasts from the past. This time I bring you a section from the flag contest.
Flags are something we all have in common, every country has them, and I think certain towns and other places do as well. That's why back in 2010, The 'Shroom held a flag contest. The contest was to see who could design a flag for the Super Mario Wiki, and was won by MrConcreteDonkey (talk), even if he did vote for himself. Join me in looking at some flags.
Flag ContestAs part of our end‐of‐the‐year festivities, we have decided to organize a contest! The goal is to create a flag to represent the Mario Wiki! Here are the rules:
To send me your flag, create the image on Photoshop, GIMP or some other image editing software. Then, upload it to Imageshack. It’s a great site for image hosting, and you can get a free account there. Once you have uploaded your flag, PM it to me on the forum. Along with the flag, please include a brief description of the flag. For example, if you were describing the American flag:
It doesn’t need to be very detailed. A basic description like that is all you need. Entries will be open from now until November 7th. No late entries will be accepted! Following the entry period, the voting round will start, and it will end November 14th. If you are looking for flags to base your design on, use these sources: Voting is closed VotingTo vote just use the {{user}} template, preceded by a #, and place your name under a flag, without any comments. You may only vote for one flag. The flag with the most votes by next Sunday will win. NO anonymous votes, you may vote for your flag, but you may not say it is your flag. Entry 1The M symbol represents the main series we cover, the emblems on the corners represent the other important series we also cover. The Japanese words, the NIWA logo, is to show our Wiki is a part of NIWA. The five mushrooms represents the Wiki's age. VotesVotes: 0 Entry 2Artist: MrConcreteDonkey (talk) This flag is a flag. The red "M" is symbolising Mario, the yellow "W" for Wario, the purple "S" for Waluigi, and the green background for Luigi. SMW spells Super Mario Wiki. The heads of the main Mario characters surround the letters. Votes

The colours represent Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi's colours and the fact that the wiki is multicultural. There are Mario and Luigi's hats on each side. VotesVotes: 1 Entry 4Artist: Sh1ny EL3ctr0de (talk) VotesVotes: 0 Entry 5Daisy's Pastel Dream, a composition by me. The Princess is presenting herself from her best side tonight. She is sporting a dream of decent pastel colors, a lovely and tender veil of soft colors that soothe the human eyes. It's modest appearance contrasts sharply with the wild and vibrant colors of the messages in the background. On top of this delicate fabrication of sensationsrests a distinct, yet graceful touch of bold ebony letters on top of a pearl-white gleam. This masterful symphony of shapes and colors leads the viewer with a firm, yet pleasant grasp, until their journey of awe comes to a circle in the bottom left corner, where Princess Daisy meets the beholder's gaze and greets them merrily. The lady herself is wearing a mustard-colored dress with puffy sleves which resonate tactfully with the princess' main accessory: The megaphone. All in all this astounding composition is an ode to the grace of mankind's society, as well as an inspiring metaphor for the meaning of words. Thank you for the attention. I'll be selling prints for $3000.00 per piece for the rest of the evening. VotesVotes: 1 Entry 6Artist: MrConcreteDonkey (talk) It is based off of the Welsh flag. I have changed the boring red dragon to Porple's colors, because he is the founder of the Wiki. I have also changed the green to red, because that is the color associated with the Mario series. Votes
