Dryites are a race of Toads that live at the Dry Dry Outpost in the game Paper Mario. They look the same as other Toads, except that they wear tagelmusts and desert clothing instead of mushroom caps and vests due to the desert setting's sands that stings their skin. The Dryites are seen living alongside some Little Mousers called Nomadimice, wearing blue (rare), green (most common), swamp green (only one), or yellow (uncommon) turbans, similar to how Toads have different colored spot patterns. (If Toads' mushroom caps are to be thought of as heads, than it can be said that Dryites actually wear their turbans over their caps; however, Goombario states that their turbans are the reason for their large heads, suggesting that Dryites do indeed lack mushroom caps.) Mario can talk to the Dryites throughout his adventure to receive tips and hints. Goombario once claimed to be near-sure that all Dryites were somehow adults and one of Kolorado's Koopa co-workers claimed that the citizens of Dry Dry Outpost were all relatives of Dry Dry Desert's ancient dwellers, indicating that Dryites and Nomadimice (and perhaps other characters, such as Merlee) are descendants of the caretakers of places such as Dry Dry Ruins.
Notable Dryites
Trivia
- A turban-clad Toad previously appeared in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3.
- Dryites are very knowledgeable, known to spread rumors and give hints to strangers. They also keep to themselves; barely any of them reacted to Mario's arrival in Dry Dry Outpost.
- One yellow turban cloaked Dry Dry Outpost native said he had a Second-Degree Card, which hints that some Dryites might be skilled in combat.
- A conspicuous Dryite can be seen at a train station in Mt. Rugged.
- In both Toad Town and Dry Dry Outpost, the first houses Mario sees are homes to very intellectual toads. They both give vital information.
