Giant Donkey Kong (or simply Giant DK) is an enhanced form of Donkey Kong that appears in the Super Smash Bros. series. In this form, DK is bigger, stronger and has more resistance to be knocked off the stage. However, due to his size, he is easier to hit.

Giant Donkey Kong also appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee in two distinct places. In the Adventure Mode, he appears after the player defeats two Tiny Donkey Kongs, but unlike the previous game the player must fight him alone. The other apperance was in the Event Mode, in two particular events: First in event 2, where the player controls him and must defeat Tiny Donkey Kong; then in event 25 where the player must defeat him using Giant Bowser. Donkey Kong can transform into Giant Donkey Kong by using a Super Mushroom (it only lasts for brief moments) or playing Giant Melee.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong (Game Boy)[edit]

Giant Donkey Kong is the final boss in Donkey Kong. He is fought in Stage 9-9 after DK assumes the form using several Super Mushrooms. While his full body cannot be seen, he appears to be slightly taller than the Tower. Giant Donkey Kong's primary attack is slamming the tower, causing barrels and barbells to fall from overhead. He can only be damaged by Mario intercepting the barrels by kicking them from a handstand, and then throwing them at him. However, the same attack that drops the barrels also destroys any that have not been thrown. As the fight continues, Donkey Kong begins to slam his fists together to try to crush Mario, and to perform a one-handed slam causing barbells to fall. It takes three barrels to defeat Giant Donkey Kong.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Super Smash Bros.[edit]

Mario, Kirby, and Yoshi fighting Giant DK

Giant DK is a minor boss in stage 6 of 1P Game. He fights identically to DK, though differences include his increased size, more resistance to knockback, and increased launch power of his attacks. He is fought on Congo Jungle, and the player has two CPU teammates to help them during this.

Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

Starting from Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Mushrooms can appear in a match and can make any character, including DK, giant. Throughout the series, permanently-giant forms of other characters appear in various single-player modes, with the effects being the same as a Super Mushroom.

Giant Donkey Kong appears in the second half of stage 2 of the Adventure Mode, fought on Jungle Japes. He is also the player character of Event 2: Lord of the Jungle. A particularly large Donkey Kong, about twice the size of even the Super Mushroom, appears in Event 25: Gargantuans.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

The only appearance of Giant Donkey Kong outside the Super Mushroom item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl are four events: The Monster Beneath the Earth, Monkeys Unite, Three-Beast Carnage, and Co-Op Event 14: The Dark Guardians.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

Giant Donkey Kong is the boss of Jigglypuff's Classic Mode route in Super Smash Bros. This inclusion is a reference to the original Super Smash Bros., which the route is themed around.
