Get the Lead Out is a 4-Player and Duel minigame in Mario Party DS. The name of the minigame comes from an idiom meaning "to move faster." This minigame appears as the fifth minigame in Score Scuffle.

Introduction[edit]

The characters are seen waving next to some mechanical pencils.

Gameplay[edit]

In the minigame, the players are pushing lead out of mechanical pencils as fast as they can in 10 seconds. Every button press increases the lead length by 0.3 units. The lead pieces match their respective players' colors, with Player 1's lead being blue, Player 2's being red, Player 3's being green, and Player 4's being yellow. Once the time is up, the screen moves over to show grid paper. It is at this time that the distances are measured. In the North American English release, the length is measured in inches. Elsewhere, it is measured in centimeters. These units are arbitrary, and the numbers given are the same in all versions of the game. The player with the most lead pushed out wins the minigame.

The highest score possible is a lead length of 90.0 inches, which is achieved through pause-buffering.[1] In Score Scuffle, it is impossible to receive 1,000 points, as a player needs to achieve a score of 90.0 inches to earn 1,000 points, and 89.7 inches is the maximum score achievable without pause-buffering.[2] This may be either a programming bug or a measure to prevent any player aiming for the highest score from having their score reset to zero and their placement changed to last.

Like with other 4-Player/Duel minigames with a record system, if the current record is broken while everyone gets the same score in both variants, it counts as a new record even though no one won, as the screen says "Tie" after the "New Record" fanfare.

Ending[edit]

The winner does their victory dance on the grid paper. If a tie is declared, all the players do their losing animations on the grid paper.
