K'Nex is an American-made building toy created by Joel Glickman and originally released in 1993 by K'NEX Industries. The K'NEX building system involves mostly using rods, connectors, gears, and other components which "snap" together to create models; however, for a few years until 2019, some K'NEX sets used building bricks similar to those of LEGO.
==Mario K'NEX | Between 2011 and 2017, K'NEX produced licensed sets based on the Super Mario franchise. Sets have been made based upon several games, starting with Mario Kart Wii and later expanding into Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario 3D World, and Mario Kart 8. Several sets have also been made not specifically based on any game, simply using the "Super Mario" branding.
===Mario Kart=== | |||
K'NEX originally started with Mario Kart Wii-themed sets exclusively. The first wave of K'NEX Mario Kart Wii building sets was released on July 21, 2011, with a launch event held at the Nintendo New York store. The event featured displays of all the first wave sets, building stations where store visitors could get a hands-on experience with the figures and vehicles, playable kiosk units featuring Mario Kart Wii itself, and photo opportunities with Mario and Luigi in a similar vein to other launch events held at the store.ref needed
Following the purchase of the brand by toy company Basic Fun! in February 2018, the company ended all production on licensed and brick-based sets, including their Super Mario theme, and has since focused strictly on generic sets. In March 2020, it was announced that LEGO had acquired the rights to produce Super Mario-themed construction sets.

Between 2011 and 2017, K'NEX produced licensed sets based on the Super Mario franchise.
K'NEX originally started with Mario Kart Wii-themed sets exclusively. The first wave of K'NEX Mario Kart Wii building sets was released on July 21, 2011, with a launch event held at the Nintendo New York store. The event featured displays of all the first wave sets, building stations where store visitors could get a hands-on experience with the figures and vehicles, playable kiosk units featuring Mario Kart Wii itself, and photo opportunities with Mario and Luigi in a similar vein to other launch events held at the store.[citation needed]
