Mario's side special move in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Mario using Cape in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Cape is Mario's side special move that has appeared in every Super Smash Bros. game since Super Smash Bros. Melee, based on the Cape Mario form. Mario swings the cape forward, and instead of launching opponents it causes them to turn around. If used while an opponent is shielding, it flips them instead. The cape also reflects projectiles. The first time Cape is used in midair between leaving the ground and returning to it, it briefly stops Mario's falling and moves him forward a bit.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Cape has two unlockable custom variants. The first one is Shocking Cape, which gives the cape an electric effect and deals greater damage and knockback, but destroys projectiles rather than reflecting them and no longer reverses the opponent's direction. The Cape can also be customized to Gust Cape, with gives the cape a wind effect which can push opponents, but deals less damage.[1]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it has a different animation: Mario now wears the Cape around his neck when he uses it, like in Super Mario World.

Dr. Mario's Super Sheet functions similarly to this move.
