Introduction
Overview
In the scene, the minigame sets in rows of hedges the players are in. The player is in the hedges surrounded by rows of leaves. The player throws the leaves out one by one until the player reaches the start of the first hedge. When the player is done, they go deeper and set on the start of the race. After that, the minigame starts.

To stop players from rushing, some leaves have a bee, the only harmful obstacle, since it stings the player character if they touch it. The bee flies away when revealed, allowing the player to continue further.

In this minigame, the player has to clear the leaves they see by using the stylus until the player reaches the next hedge. The player cannot clear a leaf that is behind the leaf that is facing the player unless the player clears the front leaf. The players have to go across five hedges in the way to try reaching the finish line. There are two obstacles that affect the gameplay: ladybugs and bees, and they occasionally appear in the hedges. Ladybugs appear on the leaves during gameplay. The player has to rub them by using the stylus. If the player rubs a ladybug hard enough, it flies away for the player continuing to clear the leaves in the pathway. Bees also appear on the leaves. If the player touches a bee while they rush, the player gets stunned by the bee for a moment. When the player is quickly confronted by a bee, they need to wait for a moment until the bee flies away so the player can continue to clear the path. Both insects occasionally appear in hedges. The first player that reaches the pond wins the minigame. In Score Scuffle, the minigame ends once everyone reaches the pond. If five minutes pass or if both players reach the pond at the same time in the Duel variant, the minigame ends in a tie.

If both players get the same score in the Duel variant that breaks the current record, it counts as a new record even though neither player won, as the screen says "Tie" after the "New Record" fanfare. This also applies to the other Duel minigames with a record system.

Ending
The winning player is on a lilypad, doing their winning animation (not in Score Scuffle). If the minigame ends in a tie, all players do their losing animations on each lilypad.

Hedge Honcho is a 4-Player and Duel minigame in Mario Party DS. Its name is a play on "head honcho," a phrase referring to whoever is in charge, and hedges, rows of which the minigame takes place in. It appears as the seventh minigame in Score Scuffle.

Overview

The player character moves aside a few leaves before starting the minigame deeper into a hedge;[1] this shows the main part of gameplay, where players use the stylus to push aside leaves in their path, one after the other, through five hedges, each trying to escape first. Some leaves have a ladybug on them, which has to be rubbed with the stylus to fly away so the player can continue. To stop players from rushing, some leaves have a bee, the only harmful obstacle, since it stings the player character if they touch it. The bee flies away when revealed, allowing the player to continue further.

Whoever makes it to the end first wins, except in Score Scuffle, where it ends after everyone reaches the pond.[2] It is possible but unlikely for multiple players to finish at once, which causes a tie, which can also occur if no one makes it to the end within five minutes. Barring Score Shuffle, the winner does their winning animation on a lilypad in the pond at the end, whilst in a tie, every player does their losing animation on a lilypad each. Even if the current record is broken in a tie, it counts as a newly set record.

Controls

 • Stylus – Move leaves
 • Stylus – Rub a ladybug to shoo it off

In-game text

 • Rules"Race to the finish by throwing leaves out of your path. Shoo off ladybugs with your stylus, but don't touch the bees at all. They'll soon buzz off."
 • Rules (Score Scuffle)"Race to the finish by throwing leaves out of your path. You'll earn more points the faster you reach the goal."
 • Tips"If a bee stings you, you'll be stunned for a while, so wait for it to fly off. Shoo off a ladybug by rubbing it with the stylus."
