Super Paper Mario description A bump from a poor Whacka. Fills 30 HP and cures poison. How do you sleep at night?

A Whacka Bump (also called a Whacka's Bump in Paper Mario) is an item in the Paper Mario series. It resembles a loaf of bread with crosshatch scoring on top similar to a melonpan, a Japanese sweetbun. In Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it restores 25 HP and 25 FP. In Super Paper Mario, it restores 30 HP. It can be sold for up to 100 coins. According to Whacka's Catch Card in Super Paper Mario, the Whacka Bump is actually a form of pastry.

History[edit]

Paper Mario[edit]

In Paper Mario, they are obtained by whacking a Whacka on the head with a Hammer. After eight hits, Whacka disappears and the player cannot obtain any more Whacka's Bumps. Having Tayce T. cook one will result in a Yummy Meal, while cooking it with a Strange Leaf results in a Deluxe Feast.

Whacka Bumps also appear in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, where they are obtained by whacking the Whacka on Keelhaul Key. Once again, eight hits make the Whacka disappear for the rest of the game. Having Zess T. cook one will result in a Zess Special, while cooking it with a Golden Leaf results in a Zess Deluxe.

A red Whacka Bump

In the Switch remake, the Whacka in the Pit of 100 Trials boss fight produces Whacka Bumps after being hit, which he can throw at the player and their partner to deal damage, or alternatively eat one to restore 25 HP, the same amount as the player. There is also a stronger red variant of the Whacka Bump that can spawn, which deals 2.5 times as much damage and heals 3 times as much HP. Defeating the Whacka for the first time rewards the player with a Gold Whacka Bump, an inedible key item, while subsequent defeats will reward the player with additional Whacka Bumps.

Super Paper Mario[edit]

The Whacka Bump is also available in Super Paper Mario, in which it heals 30 HP and cures poison. At the arcade, it can be bought for 300 Flipside Tokens, or sold for 150 coins, making it one of the more profitable items in the game. Whacka can also be found in Chapter 5-1. In the first part of the level, the player should go to the far right wall. They then should use Dottie to shrink and flip to 3D. Whacka resides on a platform beyond the hole. Cooking one in this game yields a Roast Whacka Bump, which raises its selling price to 200 coins, but it only heals 5 HP, not 30.
