==={{conjecturaltext|13 Players Online}}===
===Bowser's Castle shortcut===
Rarely, when a player finishes a race and leaves the results screen, the top left corner will say, "The next match might have 13 players", although it should say 12. It is also possible, although unlikely, to say more than 13 players (i.e. "The next match might have 14 players"). The next match will never have more than 12 players, though.

On the split paths in [[Bowser's Castle (Mario Kart Wii)|Bowser's Castle]], it is possible to boost up the sides of the half-pipes and clip through a wall to the higher road as a shortcut. This is easiest with a [[Dash Mushroom|Mushroom]] on the right of the right path.<ref>[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EG4nBhYmgO0 Bowser's Castle Shortcut Glitch]</ref>

In [[Wii Coconut Mall|Coconut Mall]], if the player jumps off a ramp in a specific way, they will fly out-of-bounds. They can then travel into the parking lot, where, if they drive in a specific way, they can complete laps.<ref>{{cite|author=Braixen|date=July 7, 2019|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcdPOiqbyE4|title=Coconut Mall - 31.481 (Former WR)|publisher=YouTube}}</ref> There are six known ways to perform this glitch.{{ref needed}} This was later fixed in ''[[Mario Kart 7]]''.

Character opponent icons in the map get noticeably larger after the player has played Time Trials. This is due to how the game sets the size of the opponents' icons; when the game initially starts up the icons are set to the size that they normally are in races. Once a Time Trial race has been started, the opponents' icons are resized to be the same as the player's icon due to there only being a maximum of one opponent in Time Trials, which is the [[Ghost (Mario Kart)|Ghost]], but it is not reset after exiting Time Trial mode. The only way to reset the icons to the correct size is by restarting the game.

==={{conjecturaltext|Blue [[Fake Item Box]]es in a Solo Race}}===
===DK Mountain half-pipe clipping===
This glitch works in all modes, but is easier if done in multiplayer mode, due to the selection of teams. The first player needs to start a team race. When going to the review teams screen, the player needs to go back and start a solo race. If player one selected the blue team, when racers trail or throw a fake item box, it will be blue rather than red. However, as with the normal, red item boxes, anybody can trip on these blue fake items in a solo race.
In {{classic link|GCN|DK Mountain}}, the player should drive to the area near the base of the volcano and use a Mushroom to clip through the edge of the fence and the half-pipe. If done correctly, the player will fly through the half-pipe and land on the other side. Stunting in the half-pipe during the glitch usually results in the player entering a black area out-of-bounds.<ref>{{cite|author=TWD98|date=April 11, 2011|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZweVAxMyV-w|title=<nowiki>[MKWii]</nowiki> DK Mountain Glitch|publisher=YouTube}}</ref>

==={{conjecturaltext|Bowser's Castle Shortcut Glitch}}===
===Ghost Valley 2 shortcut===
On the half pipe area of [[Bowser's Castle (course)#Mario Kart Wii|Bowser's Castle]], players can boost up the right side of the half pipe on the right, and go through the un-textured wall onto the higher platform, as a shortcut.
[[File:MKW Ghost Valley 2 Glitch.png|thumb|The glitch in action]]
<br clear=all>
In {{classic link|SNES|Ghost Valley 2}}, if the player boosts into the left side of the pole to the right of the [[Finish line (object)|finish line]], they can clip through it and fly over the pit, skipping part of the course.<ref>{{cite|author=マンダー|date=March 12, 2012|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbydoFtIrHM|title=<nowiki>[MKW]</nowiki> SNES Ghost Valley 2 - 00:51.984 - ◆あ_|publisher=YouTube}}</ref>

==={{conjecturaltext|Cacti [[Pokey]]}}===
===Grumble Volcano lap glitch===
[[Image:Pokey head.jpg|thumb|125px|The pokey trapped between the cacti.]]
[[File:Grumble Volcano shortcut.png|thumb|200px|The glitch being performed]]
In the [[Thwomp Desert]] tournament, if the player has the [[Pokey]] head rolling around the area, it may occasionally get jammed between three cacti, making it unable to roll around. When this happens, it will shake in place. This glitch makes the Pokey an easy target.
On the large rock to the left of the starting line in [[Wii Grumble Volcano|Grumble Volcano]], if the player drives around it, they will complete a lap. This was later fixed in ''[[Mario Kart 8]]'' by changing the rock's shape.<ref>{{cite|author=マンダー|date=February 25, 2012|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFAgqfIOhTg|title=<nowiki>[MKW] Grumble Volcano - 00:19.300 - [GGs]ニヤケ</nowiki>|publisher=YouTube}}</ref>

==={{conjecturaltext|Character with a [[Mii]] head}}===
===Incorrect music glitch===
This can be done with up to four players, but two are required.
In [[Dry Dry Ruins (race course)|Dry Dry Ruins]], if the player is hit by a [[Spiny Shell (blue)|Spiny Shell]] when they leave the ruins, the music from the ruins will play throughout the entire course until they exit the ruins again, enters the final lap, or finishes the race. This also occurs with the tunnel in [[Wii Koopa Cape|Koopa Cape]].

Start a multiplayer race/battle with everybody using the same character glitch. Once the race/battle ends, human players besides P1 who chose the same character will have a Mii as a head.
===Incorrect number of players===
<br clear=all>
Rarely, when the player finishes an online race, if the next race has 12 players, the game will say it has 13 players instead.<ref>{{cite|author=pokemonfan4000|date=August 11, 2010|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MhWRcPQclY|title=Mario Kart Wii Glitch - The Next Match Might Have 13 Players|publisher=YouTube}}</ref>

==={{conjecturaltext|[[Coconut Mall]] Parking Lot Lap Glitch}}===
===Lap counter overflow===
In Coconut Mall, if the player jumps off a ramp/escalator in a certain manner, the players fly off the main track. Players can then travel into the parking lot, where, if they go to the right places, they can make laps count. There are five known ways to do this glitch.
If the player drives backwards for 32,768 laps, the lap counter will go above the 3-lap limit, causing [[Lakitu]] to show normally unused lap graphics.<ref>[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1BHac3pw6w Finishing a Race in Mario Kart Wii By Driving Backwards for 2 Weeks] ''Malleo'' (January 11th, 2021)</ref>
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|[[DS Desert Hills]] Wallclip glitch}}===
===Maple Treeway out-of-bounds glitch===
In [[DS Desert Hills]], there is an opening with off-road to the right before the lake. If a player goes into that opening and wallclips the wall, the player will land on the other side of the lake, and if the player finishes the lap, it will count.
[[File:MKW Maple Treeway Shortcut Glitch.png|thumb|The glitch being performed]]
In [[Wii Maple Treeway|Maple Treeway]], the player can jump over the fence left of the finish line and land on the grass out-of-bounds. If they drive too far on the grass, they will fall into the abyss, as there is no collision. However, they can use a Mushroom to boost over the cliff to clip another wall to return to the course.<ref>{{cite|author=TWD98|date=September 8, 2012|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8qB0cF0WU0|title=Mario Kart Wii - Maple Treeway Ultra Shortcut / Glitch|publisher=YouTube}}</ref>
{{br}}

==={{conjecturaltext|Erratic [[Spiny Shell]]}}===
===Mario Circuit tree clip===
The player needs to be in first place when a Spiny Shell is used. He/she must let a CPU pass by just before the Spiny Shell appears. When it does, the ''player'' (not the CPU) get hit.
In [[Mario Circuit (Mario Kart Wii)|Mario Circuit]], if the player uses a Mushroom while facing the second tree behind the finish line, they will clip through it and land just after the tunnel. To make the lap count, the player must drive to the middle of the tunnel before heading to the finish line.
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|[[Ghost Valley 2]] Wall Clipping Glitch}}===
===Miscolored Item Box glitch===
The player should go to [[Ghost Valley 2]] and align with the left edge of the wall at the starting line in a perfect angle and do a standing mini-turbo towards the edge while doing a wheelie. The player should clip the edge of the wall and fly to the other side.
[[File:MKW Blue Fake Item Box Glitch.png|thumb|The glitch in action]]
<br clear=all>
To perform the glitch, the player needs to start a team race on the blue team. If the player starts a solo race, some racers' [[Fake Item Box]]es will be blue instead of red.<ref>{{cite|author=Policemanagementful|date=July 22, 2010|url=https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=65iKLLeYvo0|title=Blue Fake Item Box Glitch|publisher=YouTube}}</ref>
{{br}}

==={{conjecturaltext|[[Grumble Volcano]] Rock Lap Glitch}}===
===Mushroom Gorge lap glitch===
If the player manages to get on top of the large rock to the left of the starting line in [[Grumble Volcano]], each time he or she drives around it, the game will act as if the player completed a lap.
[[File:MKW Mushroom Gorge Mountain Glitch.png|thumb|The glitch being performed]]
<br clear=all>
In [[Wii Mushroom Gorge|Mushroom Gorge]], if the player stunts off one of the [[Mushroom Trampoline]]s at the beginning of the course, they can grind around the mountain while alternating the control stick down-left and down-right if using a controller other than a [[Wii#Wii Remote|Wii Remote]] to complete a lap. This glitch was removed in ''[[Mario Kart 7]]'', with the trampolines used to perform the glitch being removed. In ''[[Mario Kart 8 Deluxe]]'', the first shortcut returns, but attempting the glitch will result in Lakitu returning the player.
{{br}}

==={{conjecturaltext|Incorrect Music}}===
===Mushroom Gorge off-road glitch===
In [[Dry Dry Ruins (course)|Dry Dry Ruins]] or [[Koopa Cape]], right when any player leaves the ruins or tunnel, if the players get hit by a [[Spiny Shell (Mario Kart Item)|Spiny Shell]], if done correctly, the music from the ruins or tunnel will be playing throughout the entire course. If players are on lap one, the music will keep playing until they exit the ruins or tunnel yet again. If they were on laps two or three, the music will return to normal when they cross the finish or enter the final lap.
In Mushroom Gorge, there are ramps leading up to the Mushroom Trampolines that lock the player's speed, which is removed after bouncing off a trampoline. However, this speed lock can be preserved by using a Mushroom or [[Bullet Bill]] to avoid touching a trampoline after using one of these ramps, allowing the player to not be slowed when driving off-road.<ref>[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDR-ZS3JYac The Offroad Glitch - Mario Kart Wii] ''Arcintel'' (October 4th, 2019). Retrieved February 24th, 2023.</ref>
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|Jittery [[Topman]]}}===
===Opponent icon enlargement glitch===
In the second Spiky Topmen tournament, if the player pushes a Topman while it is very angled, as if it is going to land on its side, and it stops on one of the gaps that separate one of the outer rings, it will be in some fast, jittering, frozen animation. This glitch can also happen if the second Topman pushes the other Topmen, but both of these techniques are hard to do and are rare to see.

==={{conjecturaltext|Jump out of Bowser's Castle Glitch}}===
|size=260
The player will have to use a bike or kart with good speed. When they enter Bowser's Castle they need to jump on the moving floor twice. The driver will bounce up high and not come back down. Soon they will fall back down. Fall time depends on speed and if the player used mushrooms.

<br clear=all>
}}

Normally, opponent icons are smaller than the player's icon. However, after playing time trials, they are the same size. This is due these icons being enlarged in time trials due the [[Ghost (Mario Kart series)|Ghost]] being the only opponent, but not reset afterwards. The only way to fix the glitch is to restart the game.
==={{conjecturaltext|[[Maple Treeway]] Ultra Glitch}}===
{{br}}
In [[Maple Treeway]], go back slightly for about 8 seconds. Then use a Mushroom and go out of bounds. Face the fence to the left and use a Mushroom, clip the wall and use your last Mushroom right on it. You have just skipped a checkpoint. After the cannon, face the crossing road, and use the branch as a ramp to that road. This shortcut doesn't count the lap, but doing the glitch counts the lap. This isn't recommended in online races.

==={{conjecturaltext|Mario Circuit Tree Clip}}===
At [[Mario Circuit]], the player must clip the second tree behind the finish line, using a [[Mushroom]]. They will fly over part of the course and land just after the circuit's tunnel. The player must then drive backwards to the middle of the tunnel. After doing so, they have to travel forward. This glitch is also possible on one of the trees on the right before the finish line.<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|Misplaced [[Item Box]]}}===
In the second Spiky Topman tournament, if the player falls off a certain area of the Galaxy Colosseum they can see a misplaced [[Item Box]], all the way at the bottom of the [[abyss|pit]].
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|[[Mushroom Gorge]] Cave Lap Glitch}}===
In Mushroom Gorge, if the player tricks off one of the 2 mushrooms at the beginning of the course, they can grind around the mountain and gain a lap.
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|Music Volume Turned Down}}===
When on wi-fi battle mode, if one is to take the batteries out of the Wiimote right after the battle course is selected, and they put the battery back in before the countdown to start the battle, the volume of the music is turned down.
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|[[GCN Peach Beach|Peach Beach]] Tree Clip}}===
Near the end of Peach Beach, the player can clip one of the trees and go over to the other side of the course near the [[Cataquack]]s. This will count the lap.

==={{conjecturaltext|Persistent Spiny Shell}}===
In [[Maple Treeway]], if the player is being chased by a [[Spiny Shell]] and it smashes down when the player goes into the cannon, the player should go through the cannon as normal, but the Spiny Shell sounds will still play. When the player lands, the Spiny Shell should then explode they.
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|Selecting the Same Character}}===
[[Image:MKW Glitch1.jpg|thumb|left|The same character glitch.]]
[[Image:MKW Glitch3.jpg|thumb|right|The invisible kart with the second player.]]
This glitch works only for multiplayers and in 2-Player Wi-Fi. Each player has to select the character, then de-select him or her and move the cursor off. Then, the players press B to go back one screen. When returning to the characters screen, the player should notice how the ring around the selected character is flashing 2-4 colors. If the player observes what happens when one player actually selects the character, all the other players have the same animation running too. When a race finishes, the vehicles of players 2-4 will be invisible.
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|Somewhere Over The Rainbow}}===
===Peach Beach tree clip===
This glitch is in Rainbow Road. To successfully do it, the player needs to use a Mushroom to get a speed boost just before the slope after the finish line. If done right, the character will soar over the slope. Aim for the track below the upcoming ramp. If the player is lucky enough, they will land on it and skip some of the track. This is not useful, however, because the lap doesn't count. This can also be performed by [[Slipstreaming]] at the correct time rather than using a Mushroom, most easily right at the start of a race and starting in the bottom six so all the players are already lined up, however the timing on the jump is a lot more strict and is not recommended to be used as an alternative. There's a similar glitch in ''[[List of Mario Kart 64 glitches#Fast Lap Across Space in Rainbow Road|Mario Kart 64]]'', although this one does count the lap and no items are required to execute it.
Near the end of {{classic link|GCN|Peach Beach}}, the player can clip through one of the trees and drive to the other side of the course near the [[Cataquack]]s, counting the lap.
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|Through the halfpipe in [[DK Mountain]]}}===
===Rainbow Road skip===
In DK Mountain, the player should go to the area near the base of the volcano and use a [[Mushroom]] to clip through the edge of the fence and the halfpipe. If done correctly, the player should fly through the halfpipe and land on the other side. Tricking on the halfpipe while doing this usually results in the player going into a black area counted as out of bounds.
[[File:MKW Over The Rainbow Glitch.png|thumb|The glitch in action]]
<br clear=all>
Before the slope after the finish line in [[Wii Rainbow Road|Rainbow Road]], if the player use a Mushroom, the player will fly over the slope. The player can land on the track below and skip some of the course. However, the lap will not count.<ref>{{cite|author=Smashgamez|date=December 14, 2009|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWyARFqmlzQ|title=<nowiki>[MKWII]</nowiki>Rainbow Road Glitch/SC doesn´t count as a lap|publisher=YouTube}}</ref> This can also be performed by [[Slipstream]]ing at the correct time, most easily at the start and in the bottom six so all the players are lined up.
{{br}}

==={{conjecturaltext|Through the Pillar}}===
===Same character selection glitch===
The player must have extremely precise aim and timing to do this glitch. In [[Dry Dry Ruins]], if the player throws a [[Fake Item Box]] at the first pillar falling down near the inside, the Fake Item Box will go through the pillar.
[[File:MKW Glitch1.png|thumb|The glitch in action]]
<br clear=all>
[[File:MKW Glitch3.png|thumb|The second player's invisible kart]]
In multiplayer, each player has to select a character, then move the cursor away. Then, the players should go back to the mode screen. When returning to the characters screen, the ring around the selected character will be flashing multiple colors, allowing it to be selected by more than one player.
{{br}}

==={{conjecturaltext|Time Stopping}}===
====Wrong clothing glitch====
To perform this glitch, the player should stay at a course in Time Trials for two hours. Instead of counting after this time, the clock will stop completely, and reset.<br clear=all>
To perform this glitch, two players need to select [[Princess Peach|Peach]], Daisy, or [[Rosalina]]. One player should select a kart, while the other selects a bike. One player has to get 3rd place or above, while the other takes 4th place or below. At the ceremony, the princesses will be wearing each other's clothing.

==={{conjecturaltext|[[Topman]] Transport}}===
===Shaking Topman glitch===
In the second [[Spiky Topman]] tournament, if the player pushes a Topman to the outer ring of the [[Galaxy Colosseum]] (but not over the edge) and then the outer ring starts to fall, it will still try to attack the player while the ring falls. Therefore, the Topman will somehow transport itself from the falling outer ring back to the main stable platform.
During the second [[Spiky Topman|Spiky Topmen]] tournament, if the player pushes a [[Topman]] while it stopped on a gap separating an outer ring and angled towards its side, it will shake rapidly. This also occurs if one Topman pushes another.
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|Upside Down in [[Coconut Mall]]}}===
===Stuck Pokey glitch===
Players need to be driving in the [[Tiny Titan]] in Time Trial mode on Coconut Mall. They should go up to any escalator going down and position their left or right tires on the railing, slightly above the floor. It may take some time, but soon the car will flip upside down. To correct this, simply accelerate.
[[File:Pokey head.jpg|thumb|125px|The glitch in action]]
<br clear=all>
Occasionally, during the [[Thwomp Desert]] tournament, when the [[Pokey]] head rolls around, it may become stuck between cacti.
{{br}}

==={{conjecturaltext|Upside down in [[DK Summit]]}}===
===Upside-down in DK Summit===
The player must go after the first 180° turn and see a pit before the second: they must go with the vehicle right before the pit (at its left), aware to not fall in it. The player must then accelerate very slowly, ending up near the fence at the right of the second 180° turn: occasionally, the player will flip up. In this state, the vehicle cann't be controlled and will soon fall to a pit to the left, returing normal in the process. The glitch has only been known to occur while using [[Bowser]] in the [[Piranha Prowler]].
At the pit before the second 180° turn in [[Wii DK Summit|DK Summit]], they must drive to the pit, making sure not to fall. Then, the player must accelerate slowly, ending up near the fence at the right of the turn. Occasionally, the player will flip up, losing control of their vehicle as they fall into the pit, returning normal in the process. The glitch has only been known to occur while using [[Bowser]] in the [[Piranha Prowler]].

==={{conjecturaltext|Using the Wrong Vehicle}}===
===Volume reduction glitch===
[[Image:MKW Glitch2.jpg|right|thumb|The Wrong Vehicle Glitch.]]
During a Wi-Fi match, if a Wii Remote's batteries are removed after a course is selected and reinserted before the countdown, the music's volume will decrease. This also occurs with the [[Nintendo GameCube#Nintendo GameCube Controller|GameCube controller]] if is unplugged after course selection and plugged back in before the countdown.
When moving on towards the Kart or Bike selection screen (with the Selecting the Same Character glitch activated), if one player is on a bike and the other is in a kart, the players on the bike may look as though they're riding in a kart and vice versa. It does not affect the actual gameplay, and the players play as the character normally.
<br clear=all>

==={{conjecturaltext|[[Wario's Gold Mine]] Quick Lap}}===
===Wario's Gold Mine lap skip===
The player must go to [[Wario's Gold Mine]] and go forward to the right slightly. Then, the player should face the pipe and use a Mushroom. Either the player goes out of bounds or bounces off the pipe through the above road. Either way, the player have to hit just to the right of the metal fence. Then, the player can finish the lap with that checkpoint.
In [[Wii Wario's Gold Mine|Wario's Gold Mine]], the player must drive to the right just after the starting line. Then, they should face the pipe below the bridge at the end of the track and use a Mushroom. The player must bounce off the pipe below, then pass through the wooden bridge just to the right of the metal fence. They must then drive into the tunnel, then turn back around to complete a lap.<ref>{{cite|author=CTGP Records|date=December 8, 2019|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMbK_vFmtdg|title=【MKW WR】Wario's Gold Mine (Glitch) - 32.322 - M¢Rαren|publisher=YouTube}}</ref> The first part of the skip can also be done by respawning due to touching the pipe.

==={{conjecturaltext|Wrong Animation}}===
===Wrong animation glitch===
Sometimes when the player is watching a live Wi-Fi race, the player in first place who already past the finish line will start doing the sixth place and below animation while/or a racer(s) in sixth place or below will start doing the fifth place and above animation. Although it is more likely for the player in first place will do the wrong animation.
Occasionally, when the player watches a live Wi-Fi race, the first place player who is already past the finish line will perform the sixth place and below animation, or racers in sixth place or below will perform the fifth place and above animation. However, it is more likely for the first place player to perform the wrong animation.
<br clear=all>

==References==
Players should do the "Selecting the Same Character" glitch, and choose either Peach, Daisy, or Rosalina.  One player chooses a kart, while the other chooses a bike. One player has to get 3rd place or above, and the other take 4th place or below. At the victory ceremony, if one player keeps an eye on the princess in 4th place or below, the princess will be wearing a dress, while the other is wearing her biker suit, or vice versa.

==={{conjecturaltext|Win Every Wifi Race}}===
The player must be on a Wifi Race and once the race has begun the player must find their router and disconnect the cable that looks like a TV cable or phone plug then reconnect it. When that player goes back it will say they won but on the other players scoreboards the player that disconnected will be last.

It has been requested that more images be uploaded for this article. Remove this notice only after the additional images have been added. Specifics: upside down kart glitch

This is a list of glitches in Mario Kart Wii. Unless otherwise noted, all names are conjectural.

Glitches

Bowser's Castle shortcut

Funky Kong clips through the wall in Bowser's Castle.
The glitch in action

On the split paths in Bowser's Castle, it is possible to boost up the sides of the half-pipes and clip through a wall to the higher road as a shortcut. This is easiest with a Mushroom on the right of the right path.[1]

Coconut Mall lap glitch

Coconut Mall's parking lot accessed via a glitch.
Daisy in the parking lot

In Coconut Mall, if the player jumps off a ramp in a specific way, they will fly out-of-bounds. They can then travel into the parking lot, where, if they drive in a specific way, they can complete laps.[2] There are six known ways to perform this glitch.[citation needed] This was later fixed in Mario Kart 7.

DK Mountain half-pipe clipping

In GCN DK Mountain, the player should drive to the area near the base of the volcano and use a Mushroom to clip through the edge of the fence and the half-pipe. If done correctly, the player will fly through the half-pipe and land on the other side. Stunting in the half-pipe during the glitch usually results in the player entering a black area out-of-bounds.[3]

Ghost Valley 2 shortcut

Funky Kong flying over the void in Ghost Valley 2.
The glitch in action

In SNES Ghost Valley 2, if the player boosts into the left side of the pole to the right of the finish line, they can clip through it and fly over the pit, skipping part of the course.[4]

Grumble Volcano lap glitch

Grumble Volcano
The glitch being performed

On the large rock to the left of the starting line in Grumble Volcano, if the player drives around it, they will complete a lap. This was later fixed in Mario Kart 8 by changing the rock's shape.[5]

Incorrect music glitch

In Dry Dry Ruins, if the player is hit by a Spiny Shell when they leave the ruins, the music from the ruins will play throughout the entire course until they exit the ruins again, enters the final lap, or finishes the race. This also occurs with the tunnel in Koopa Cape.

Incorrect number of players

Rarely, when the player finishes an online race, if the next race has 12 players, the game will say it has 13 players instead.[6]

Lap counter overflow

If the player drives backwards for 32,768 laps, the lap counter will go above the 3-lap limit, causing Lakitu to show normally unused lap graphics.[7]

Maple Treeway out-of-bounds glitch

Funky Kong clipping the fence and boosting in Maple Treeway.
The glitch being performed

In Maple Treeway, the player can jump over the fence left of the finish line and land on the grass out-of-bounds. If they drive too far on the grass, they will fall into the abyss, as there is no collision. However, they can use a Mushroom to boost over the cliff to clip another wall to return to the course.[8]

Mario Circuit tree clip

In Mario Circuit, if the player uses a Mushroom while facing the second tree behind the finish line, they will clip through it and land just after the tunnel. To make the lap count, the player must drive to the middle of the tunnel before heading to the finish line.

Miscolored Item Box glitch

The blue Fake Item Box, normally restricted to team races, can appear in solo races due to a glitch.
The glitch in action

To perform the glitch, the player needs to start a team race on the blue team. If the player starts a solo race, some racers' Fake Item Boxes will be blue instead of red.[9]

Mushroom Gorge lap glitch

Daisy grinding on the mountain in Mushroom Gorge.
The glitch being performed

In Mushroom Gorge, if the player stunts off one of the Mushroom Trampolines at the beginning of the course, they can grind around the mountain while alternating the control stick down-left and down-right if using a controller other than a Wii Remote to complete a lap. This glitch was removed in Mario Kart 7, with the trampolines used to perform the glitch being removed. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the first shortcut returns, but attempting the glitch will result in Lakitu returning the player.

Mushroom Gorge off-road glitch

In Mushroom Gorge, there are ramps leading up to the Mushroom Trampolines that lock the player's speed, which is removed after bouncing off a trampoline. However, this speed lock can be preserved by using a Mushroom or Bullet Bill to avoid touching a trampoline after using one of these ramps, allowing the player to not be slowed when driving off-road.[10]

Opponent icon enlargement glitch

Normally, opponent icons are smaller than the player's icon. However, after playing time trials, they are the same size. This is due these icons being enlarged in time trials due the Ghost being the only opponent, but not reset afterwards. The only way to fix the glitch is to restart the game.

Peach Beach tree clip

Near the end of GCN Peach Beach, the player can clip through one of the trees and drive to the other side of the course near the Cataquacks, counting the lap.

Rainbow Road skip

The glitch in action

Before the slope after the finish line in Rainbow Road, if the player use a Mushroom, the player will fly over the slope. The player can land on the track below and skip some of the course. However, the lap will not count.[11] This can also be performed by Slipstreaming at the correct time, most easily at the start and in the bottom six so all the players are lined up.

Same character selection glitch

Kartless Diddy Kong glitch (after having one race in the glitched state) in Mario Kart Wii.
The second player's invisible kart

In multiplayer, each player has to select a character, then move the cursor away. Then, the players should go back to the mode screen. When returning to the characters screen, the ring around the selected character will be flashing multiple colors, allowing it to be selected by more than one player.

Wrong clothing glitch

To perform this glitch, two players need to select Peach, Daisy, or Rosalina. One player should select a kart, while the other selects a bike. One player has to get 3rd place or above, while the other takes 4th place or below. At the ceremony, the princesses will be wearing each other's clothing.

Shaking Topman glitch

During the second Spiky Topmen tournament, if the player pushes a Topman while it stopped on a gap separating an outer ring and angled towards its side, it will shake rapidly. This also occurs if one Topman pushes another.

Stuck Pokey glitch

A glitch from Mario Kart Wii.
The glitch in action

Occasionally, during the Thwomp Desert tournament, when the Pokey head rolls around, it may become stuck between cacti.

Upside-down in DK Summit

At the pit before the second 180° turn in DK Summit, they must drive to the pit, making sure not to fall. Then, the player must accelerate slowly, ending up near the fence at the right of the turn. Occasionally, the player will flip up, losing control of their vehicle as they fall into the pit, returning normal in the process. The glitch has only been known to occur while using Bowser in the Piranha Prowler.

Volume reduction glitch

During a Wi-Fi match, if a Wii Remote's batteries are removed after a course is selected and reinserted before the countdown, the music's volume will decrease. This also occurs with the GameCube controller if is unplugged after course selection and plugged back in before the countdown.

Wario's Gold Mine lap skip

In Wario's Gold Mine, the player must drive to the right just after the starting line. Then, they should face the pipe below the bridge at the end of the track and use a Mushroom. The player must bounce off the pipe below, then pass through the wooden bridge just to the right of the metal fence. They must then drive into the tunnel, then turn back around to complete a lap.[12] The first part of the skip can also be done by respawning due to touching the pipe.

Wrong animation glitch

Occasionally, when the player watches a live Wi-Fi race, the first place player who is already past the finish line will perform the sixth place and below animation, or racers in sixth place or below will perform the fifth place and above animation. However, it is more likely for the first place player to perform the wrong animation.
