First appearance Mario & Luigi: Brothership (2024)

Shipshape Island, also simply referred to as Shipshape, is a structure described as "part ship, part island," used by Mario and Luigi in Mario & Luigi: Brothership and serves as the hub for the player for the game. As its name implies, it is an island shaped like a ship, with a tall tree, the Uni-Tree, serving as a mast and sail. The island is covered in grass and pathways, with many smaller trees and some waterfalls and lakes. On its stern stands a monument featuring an outlet and a plug, covered in moss. The ship has a yellow cannon with a mounted telescope used to launch Mario and Luigi towards the islands of Concordia.[1] Its name is derived from "shipshape", a term used to describe something neat and tidy.

Gameplay

Shipshape Island serves as the main hub for Mario and Luigi, and is the place from which they travel to various islands in the game from the cannon on its bow, as well as a place to purchase items and equipment from.

The island travels automatically on currents on the sea and the player may find more islands on a given current's pathway. The player can alter the currents on which Shipshape Island travels on via the Ocean Map by pressing Minus Button and selecting it. After clearing the first Great Lighthouse Island, the ship receives the ability to speed up drastically by pressing X Button. Near the end of the game, the creation of a certain engine depending on the player's choices allows them to fast travel to any point on a revealed current, even isolated ones, by pressing Y Button while the cursor is on the desired destination.

When the player clears an island by connecting its Lighthouse to Shipshape Island, the player can fast-travel to it via a blue Warp Pipe on Shipshape Island.[2] More NPCs and shops will appear as the player connects more islands.
