Hot Air Balloons in ''Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest'' are encountered in [[Red-Hot Ride]] only, where using them is required to make it through the level. [[Diddy Kong]] and [[Dixie Kong]] can stand on a Hot Air Balloon and lean either left or right to control its movement. If the [[Kong]]s stand at the edge of a Hot Air Balloon, the animation of them about to fall off is shown, even though they cannot walk off of a Hot Air Balloon. By default, a Hot Air Balloon slowly descends into the lava, but it can be suspended in midair if it is floating at the top of a thermal column, which come in varying heights. Most Hot Air Balloons start off at the top of a thermal column. Throughout Red-Hot Ride, the Kongs must maneuver the Hot Air Balloon past a series of enemies, especially [[Zinger]]s, until reaching the next Hot Air Balloon or the ground. The Kongs can abandon a Hot Air Balloon by jumping off it, but trying to walk or run on the edge of the balloon will instead move it in the corresponding direction. Hot Air Balloons are held up in the air by thermal columns that rise out of the lava, but will go down slowly when not in contact with a thermal. The Kongs must maneuver the balloon through an obstacle course and reach the next thermal, Hot Air Balloon, or a piece of land before the balloon sinks along with them into the lava. Most Hot Air Balloons are initially positioned at the top of a thermal to allow the Kongs to mount them anytime. Some Hot Air Balloons also sustain elements such as objects (a [[DK Barrel]] in this instance) and enemies (a [[Krusha]] and a [[Neek]]).

Hot Air Balloons[1] (also formatted as Hot-Air Balloons)[2] are large balloons that player characters use to travel across hazardous areas, namely wide pits of lava. They appear in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and its sister game, Donkey Kong Land 2.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest[edit]

Hot Air Balloons in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest are encountered in Red-Hot Ride only, where using them is required to make it through the level. Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong can stand on a Hot Air Balloon and lean either left or right to control its movement. If the Kongs stand at the edge of a Hot Air Balloon, the animation of them about to fall off is shown, even though they cannot walk off of a Hot Air Balloon. By default, a Hot Air Balloon slowly descends into the lava, but it can be suspended in midair if it is floating at the top of a thermal column, which come in varying heights. Most Hot Air Balloons start off at the top of a thermal column. Throughout Red-Hot Ride, the Kongs must maneuver the Hot Air Balloon past a series of enemies, especially Zingers, until reaching the next Hot Air Balloon or the ground. Hot Air Balloons in Donkey Kong Land 2 are functionally identical as before, but they are slightly wider, and appear in two volcanic-themed levels, Redhot Ride and Fiery Furnace. Neither levels have thermal columns, so it is not possible to suspend a Hot Air Balloon back in midair.
