Hot Air Balloons[1] (also formatted as Hot-Air Balloons)[2] are large blue balloons required to cross certain large pits of lava in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. Hot Air Balloons function identically in both games. They appear only in Red-Hot Ride in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest as well as in Redhot Ride and Fiery Furnace in Donkey Kong Land 2. The player characters can lean either left or right to steer a Hot Air Balloon, which shows their animation of trying to maintain balance, even though they cannot fall off. A Hot Air Balloon descends into the lava slowly but can be kept afloat by thermal columns,[3][4] which do not return in Donkey Kong Land 2. The Hot Air Balloon typically crosses a path with Zingers and other enemies up until reaching either the next Hot Air Balloon or the ground. Some Hot Air Balloons have a DK Barrel on them, or sometimes even a Kruncha or Neek, which do not affect its movement as they scurry on it back and forth.
