A Snapjaw is an invulnerable piranha-like species of fish. They resemble pink Lockjaws.

Snapjaws appear normally near water's surface, following the Kongs throughout the level to attack them when they attempt to fall into the water. Once locked on to its prey, the Snapjaw bites mercilessly, forcing the Kongs to get out from the water. They can not be defeated, and move at a very fast pace, so the heroes must make sure they avoid this enemy at all costs.

The first appearance of Snapjaws is in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. In this game, Snapjaws only appear in two levels (and only one Snapjaw per level at that), "Slime Climb" and "Clapper's Cavern". In "Slime Climb", a Snapjaw follows Diddy and Dixie Kong throughout the level, a half-sunken ship that is still sinking at a rapid pace. Elsewhere, in "Clapper's Cavern", a Snapjaw once again follows the Kongs throughout the level. In order to avoid the hungry fish in this level, the Kongs have to employ the freezing powers of their animal buddy, Clapper the Seal.
