Bobbing Barrel Brawl is the first level where Ellie can suck up water by pressing snes and fire it by pressing snes. Alternatively, the player can press down and hold snes to suck up water, and press snes to shoot it out. Ellie can also shoot water diagonally upwards by holding up while shooting. She can only carry up to seven drops of water, and the current amount is indicated from a meter at the bottom-right of the screen. Ellie cannot suck in water from a waterfall while she is blasting out from a Barrel Cannon. In parts of the stage, she must suck up TNT Barrels to attack the red Buzzes blocking her path. Ellie is also playable for a portion of Tracker Barrel Trek, and would later fight the world boss Squirt at Squirt's Showdown. The Kongs can ride on Ellie for a brief portion of Pot Hole Panic. Ellie's seventh and final level appearance is in Stampede Sprint, where after encountering three Sneeks, Ellie gets a large scare and runs through the level uncontrollably.

Aside from this, Ellie was repurposed into a generic Animal Friend, as she can no longer drag barrels with her trunk and she is not afraid of Sneeks. She also appears in fewer levels, each at a later part of the game: Footloose Falls, Rickety Rapids, and Rainforest Rumble. In Donkey Kong GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong, Ellie's sprite uses a purple palette.

First appearance Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (1996)
Latest appearance Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (spirit cameo) (2018)

Ellie is an Animal Friend appearing in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. She is the first Animal Friend who is a female. She is treated as something of a substitute for Rambi in that they are both heavy mammals used as the first stage's Animal Buddy, but unlike Rambi's simple charging- and contact-based movements and attacks, Ellie involves more strategy due to her strengths being less obvious and more situational. Ellie has two unique characteristics, both involving her trunk. She has the ability to collect water into her trunk, including from a waterfall, and then fire it at enemies. She has a fear of mice, specifically Sneeks, which is a reference to the popular, albeit scientifically contested belief of elephants being negatively conscious towards mice in the real world. She can also take out stronger enemies like Krumples due to her weight. In addition, she can carry barrels with her trunk, and suck them towards her if they are out of reach by facing a barrel and holding Y Button.
