The 'Shroom:Issue 211/Fun Stuff
Director's Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome into the Fun Stuff office, where we're decked out in our best Halloween wear! Of course, it was Anton who requested it. He wants a costume party in the 'Shroom offices for his hundredth issue? Consider it done! Thankfully, I had Waluigi Time (talk) prepared to reoutfit me this month. Much appreciate the witch fit!
As you've determined by now, we're celebrating the commitment of Critic Corner's esteemed Team Director. I've actually had the pleasure of meeting Anton away from this website before, and I know from direct interaction that he's seriously a great guy. Tagging along for his shopping escapades was a delight. Inside this community, Anton has done a tremendous amount, ranging from his many years as Awards Director to his insistence on keeping a safe environment as a chat moderator. Truly, his legacy here cannot be stated enough, and this 'Shroom issue honoring him is only a fraction of the accolades he's rightfully earned. Thank you, Anton, for being a part of this community to this day!
Fun Stuff is the same festive place you know and love, with plenty of sweet treats to uncover! Go on ahead, readers - no tricks from me!

Finally, kudos go to Waluigi Time (talk) and Hooded Pitohui (talk) for a tied third place. Got any favorite sections this month? Make sure to vote for them at the bottom of the page, and write in anything extra-special to Poochy's Picks!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hi everyone, welcome to our very special issue celebrating our Critic Corner Team Leader and Reviewing Royalty Anton! Whether he's keeping us safe, running awards, reminding us how cute Kamek is or telling us which hot chocolates to avoid, he really knows how to keep doing a great job! And to celebrate, I've sorceled up some anagrams of various magicians from the Mario franchise. If you fancy suggesting next month's theme, or an anagram I could use as part of it, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, and I'll do what I can to get it worked in. No need to spell it out- time to wand-er what these anagrams can be transformed into!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. DELAYING SKINNY IN KIND
2. ASK HYPE MOCK
3. CLUB TO NECK
4. MULE LEVER
5. INVADED LOG
6. MEAD RAMPAGE
7. DEARLY DOT
8. OVERLAY MAMA ACID
9. CLEAT TACK
10. SIR RIPS SIXPENCE
11. ALSO RAIN
12. SHOWIER SAND
Bonus anagram:
- Nikki, Lindsey and Ginny
- Psycho Kamek
- Count Bleck
- Merluvlee
- Golden Diva
- Madame Grape
- Dr. Toadley
- Madame Clairvoya
- Cackletta
- Sprixie Princess
- Rosalina
- Shadow Sirens
Bonus anagram: Count Cannoli
Word Search
Hello and welcome to another Word Search, everyone's favorite word-finding Fun Stuff section. Exciting news, everyone: Backyard Baseball is back! Everyone's favorite children's arcade-style baseball game where children from all over the neighborhood, from 1950's greaser Tony Delvecchio to big nerd Dmitri Petrovich, get together to play baseball! Super popular in the 90's, and as a 90's kid, I played these games a ton. And now, in addition to a reboot, the old games are finally starting to come to Steam! Starting with Backyard Baseball 1997! So in honor of it finally happening, this month's word search is all about the children from Backyard Baseball 1997! Words can be found vertically, horizontally, diagonally, backwards, and even inside other words! As always stay safe and have fun!
Crossword
Written by: MarioMorty (talk)
Welcome back to Crosswords, I'm MarioMorty, and we have somewhat of a special edition on our hands today. Not only is this edition dedicated to Anton, but there's a bit of a twist this time around. As you may notice, there's four large yellow boxes, which is meant to be a year. What year, however, is up to you to figure out. Some clues may help point you to the year, while some may require the year to be completed. As for Anton's placement in here, I tried my best to incorporate some clues about him. It won't lead you to solving the year. One last thing, a reminder on how your answers should be formatted. For numbers, write it out. For example, "Mario Party 2" would be written as "MARIOPARTYTWO" on the board. That's all, and I'll be back next month for more surprises.
Hiding Koopa
Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)
Hello there, 'Shroom readers! Bad news, poor Koopa Troopa didn't get invited to Mario's costume party this year. Or maybe Bowser needed someone to stay behind and guard the castle, because he sure brought plenty of his other minions. As you may know by now, however, Koopas don't care about not being invited and like to show up anyway. There's five Koopas hidden in this Halloween promo artwork! This one might be a little tricky, but unfortunately I don't have any treats to hand out for solving it.
Thanks for playing! Did you find them all?
Hint Art
Written by: ViableBunnyBudd (talk)
Welcome back to another edition of Hint Art! I've gotta say, the upcoming Mario games are looking really good. I'll definitely have to try Brothership and Jamboree as soon as I can. In Hint Art related news… well, it's just Hint Art related olds. It's the same as always, I made a hint and you've gotta solve it!
So here's how it works: I have picked a location somewhere in the game. This is NOT the location of an existing star in the game; it is a custom location! I then made some art that abstractly represents this location in some way. It is now up to you, the reader, to decipher what this art means and to grab this imaginary star at this location! It's just like the rules of the Hint Arts from Super Mario Odyssey, only it's done for other 3D Marios. Most of these will be ground-pound stars like in Odyssey, but if I'm feeling creative I might have these imaginary stars in the air or activated by punching a wall.
I was, in fact, feeling creative this month. The star is in a wall this time! (Oooh, revolutionary concept!)
GAME: Super Mario 64
STAR TYPE: In a wall
Hmm… are these really three perfect copies?
Those colors really stand out in an area with not a lot of color.
Of course I'd get involved with the Halloween festivities!
Thanks for playing, unless you didn't!
Connections
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome back to another edition of Connections! I was going to hand out some terms for our trick-or-treaters, but I seem to have mixed up my word bowls! Oh no! Want to sort through these tricky treats with me?
How it works:
Below is a table of sixteen different words, all of them with some sort of connection to the Mario series. These words correlate in sets of four, and it's up to you to figure out which words belong to a set! Work through the grid and decide which words are connected. Once you think you have the answer, check against the provided answers. If you get stuck along the way, feel free to utilize the clues. There's only one correct answer, so be on the lookout for words that feel like they might fit in more than one category. Good luck!
Resetti | Scientist | Lloyd | Casket |
Chef | Arwing | Geno | Builder |
Kirby | Akira | Golf | Pig |
Lighthouse | Grass | BABYMETAL | Cow |
Start with "Scientist"
Another smashing good time!
You'll need to get crafty with this one...
- Scientist, Chef, Builder, Golf: outfits in Super Mario Odyssey
- Lloyd, Geno, Akira, Pig: Mii Fighter costumes in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Casket, Lighthouse, Grass, Cow: costumes in Yoshi's Crafted World
- Resetti, Arwing, Kirby, BABYMETAL: costumes in Super Mario Maker
How did you do? Did you figure out the connections? Thanks for playing!

The tracks in this issue are related to Kamek, food, general Halloween spookiness, and even reviews! (If you can consider video game results screens reviews, anyway. It's the best I could do, okay?) Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!
You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!
Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.
Challenge round (optional):
-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less
-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help
“Gumshoe, it’s time for your next case! This time, we’ve got a stolen item case for you to work on while we track down Carmen’s whereabouts. Donkey Kong has requested your assistance this time. It seems that someone has stolen his beloved bongo controller straight from his home. The bongo controller was a unique controller created by Nintendo for Donkey Konga, a rhythm game starring the big guy where he must master the art of the bongo to make his way through different songs and beats in several game modes. It saw two sequels, one of which unfortunately did not see an international release. DK seems to have grown attached to the controller since the original game released, and he uses it for all of his games now, which means it gets a lot of use! He was definitely more grumpy that usual when he contacted us about the controller going missing, so we’re sending you out now, gumshoe! Follow the beat and find that controller!”

HIDEOUT ANSWER: Watermelon Walkabout from Super Mario Party
“Gumshoe, you’ve solved the case once again! Thanks for meeting us here, although it looks like our thief isn’t going anywhere from the looks of that sticky goop he’s caught in. Perhaps a giant watermelon wasn’t the best place to hold a Mario Party game board, but it worked in our favor this time as our culprit got sticky feet in addition to his sticky fingers. Here’s our extraction team right now to pull him out and get that controller back to DK. Stellar work! The big guy is thrilled to get his beloved controller back, so much so that once he heard that we had set off to come get it, he left to get your reward: your own set of DK bongos! While these ones can’t be used as a controller, they can make lovely music. Be sure to keep them safe at home, gumshoe. Now, we have a few leads on Carmen’s position, so I have to get back to monitoring communications. For now, return to the office and get started on your case files. We’ll let you know if any of our leads pan out!”
