A Back Space is an uncommon space that is first present in Mario Party 3 and then appears in Mario Party 9 and Mario Party 10.
History[edit]
Mario Party 3[edit]
Back Spaces first appear in Mario Party 3, where they cause any player who lands on one to roll the Dice Block again and go back in the direction they were moving. They have a different function on the Backtrack board, where they instead reverse the direction the player moves on the board.
No Back Spaces appear in Blowhard (although they still appear on the board results screen).
Mario Party 9[edit]
In Mario Party 9, when a player lands on a Back Space, they will get to roll an extra time with the Normal Dice Block, moving backwards on the board. If a Captain lands on another Back Space after they land on a Back Space, then the Captain still gets to roll the Dice Block an extra time. Special Dice Blocks cannot be used to modify these rolls. If the current captain lands on a Back Space near the end of a fork (such as in the last spaces of Toad Road) and manages to go back, the vehicle will always go back on the original path chosen by the previous captain.
Mario Party 10[edit]
Back Spaces reappear in Mario Party 10 with the same function as in Mario Party 9, though they only appear in the Mario Party mode. They can also transform into Green Spaces.[1][dead link]
