This is a list of glitches found exclusively in Super Mario Advance 4. For glitches found in the original game, see List of Super Mario Bros. 3 glitches. Unless otherwise noted, all names are conjectural.
Glitches
Backwards running
To do this glitch, the player must hold and at the same time, and Mario/Luigi will run backward.
Boss Bass glitch
If the player goes to World 3-3 or 3-8 and lets Boss Bass jump out of the water after Mario or Luigi, the player must repeatedly press while Boss Bass dives into the water and until his head pops up they must stop. If done correctly, Boss Bass does not hurt the plumbers but are still stuck inside and the player cannot escape except by exiting the level or restarting the game.
Fast underground music
If the player enters a pipe on the map after using a Starman, after the Starman expires, the faster version of the underground music will play indefinitely.
Icon color change glitch
To do this glitch, Mario or Luigi must have completed World 2-Pyramid. It will have a "completed" white icon, however, if Mario goes to the left, so that the level is off-screen and back, the icon will turn yellow.
Mario wearing Luigi's clothes
This glitch can only be performed in World 5-Tower. The player must be in two-player mode. First, the tower must be completed with both Mario and Luigi. Luigi then needs to die in the small room that returns the player to the ground portion of the world. After this is done, the player should press on the map to bring up the replay data menu and select 'view now'. In the recording, the intro screen will say "LUIGI START!" and the character lives icon with be that of Luigi's, but the player character will be Mario wearing Luigi's clothes, with Mario's voice. Upon returning to the map, the status bar will be missing and if the item menu is summoned by pressing , the game will softlock, with the status bar scrolling down the screen indefinitely. In the PAL version of the game, the inverse can also be executed by dying as Mario in the warp room - Luigi will be wearing Mario's clothes with his own voice, and the intro screen and lives counter will be Mario's.
Washed-out Mario
If a Starman runs out in this version, Mario/Luigi will have a slightly washed-out color palette. This will be fixed if he takes a pipe or door, takes damage, beats a level, or gets a power-up (other than a Starman).
