Figure Skating is a Skating Event that appears in the Nintendo DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. It is set in the Pacific Coliseum. The objective of the event is to score ore points than the opponent based on the execution of the performance.

Gameplay[edit]

In this event, the player starts by selecting one of the three songs for the event, with each song having different performance elements and difficulties. The player can guide their character around the rink by touching and holding the Touch Screen and dragging the stylus in the direction they want to move the character, aiming to follow the guide marks on the rink. The more accurately the player follows the marks, the more points they will receive for their artistical score, and successfully following the guide marks for an extended period of time will cause the character to perform a spiral. When the character reaches an orange star shaped mark, the player must slide the stylus in various directions and shapes as indicated on the Touch Screen to perform a jump. The faster and more accurately the player inputs these commands, the more points they will receive for the jump. When the character touches the ice again when landing, the player can slide up to cause them to perform a second consecutive jump and earn extra points. When the player reaches a green circle, the player must repeatedly trace a specific shape shown on the Touch Screen to cause the character to perform a spin, earning more points the faster they draw the shape. When the character reaches a pink musical note, a section of the performance where the player must tap the screen when the musical notes cross the circle begins to perform a step sequence, with the player earning points for the best-timed taps of the screen on each musical note. To finish the routine, the player must touch the Touch Screen with the right timing to strike a finishing pose to earn extra points. After the routine has been completed, the player receives separate scores for artistical and technical ability, as well as a combined score that ultimately decides their placement in the event.
