Hip Trees[1][2] are Semisolid Platforms that occur in the savanna-themed course Bulrush Coming Through! and the forest-themed Sproings in the Twilight Forest. They are broad-canopied trees similar to umbrella thorn acacias that shift once ground-pounded. There are identical looking acacia platforms in other savanna-themed courses, but the true Hip Trees buckle slightly when stood on by a player character. They do not occur in any courses off of the Pipe-Rock Plateau.
There are only two Hip Trees in Bulrush Coming Through! The first one is the broadest of the two and grows out of a pit. It can be ground-pounded twice, which shifts it downward. The second ground-pound makes it flat with the surrounding ground. Positioning the tree here allows a nearby Bulrush to run across it and destroy the hard blocks to the left, clearing a path to the course's first 10-flower coin. The second Hip Tree occurs near the Checkpoint Flag and has a Talking Flower on its canopy. Ground-pounding the canopy sends it skyward, bringing the player character to a Coin Heaven. Smogrins and the course's second 10-flower coin occur here. Three Hip Trees occur in Sproings in the Twilight Forest, which all of them shift upward when ground-pounded. The first one brings the player character closer to a beacon on the ceiling. The Wonder Flower of this course, which is initially held by a nearby Sproing, rests on the canopy of the third Hip Tree in the course.
