The Mecha Hand[1] is a large mechanical hand modeled after Bowser's own hand that appears in New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U. It is attached to Bowser's Airship, and it is most likely operated by Bowser Jr.

History[edit]

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]

The Mecha Hand is present during the intro, where it tosses Mario, Luigi, Yellow Toad, and Blue Toad into the Acorn Tree. In The Mighty Cannonship (All Aboard! in New Super Luigi U), a cutscene after the Bowser Jr. boss battle has the Mecha Hand attempt to grab the player(s), though they jump out of the airship.

In Boarding the Airship (Bowser Jr. Showdown in New Super Luigi U), the Mecha Hand has a gameplay role. Starting at the top of the screen, the Mecha Hand slams the ground at certain intervals, acting similarly to the Pillars from Super Mario World. It is also capable of punching the ground, destroying the terrain as it drops. This behavior is similar to that of the Incoming Chomps from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. After the boss fight against Bowser Jr., the characters land on the ship. Bowser Jr. directs the Mecha Hand to attack the player(s). However, the player(s) run(s) away, causing the hand to punch and destroy the airship.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[edit]

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, the Mecha Hand is used to bring Luigi to the Koopa Cruiser, replacing a generic-looking claw in the original Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Mario Tennis Aces[edit]

A smaller variant of the Mecha Hand appears as one of the attachments to the Junior Clown Car in Mario Tennis Aces. Bowser Jr. uses it as part of his Special Shot.

LEGO Super Mario[edit]

The LEGO Super Mario "Bowser's Airship" expansion set contains a Mecha Hand mounted on one of the ship's flagpoles.
