The 'Shroom:Issue 208/Fun Stuff
Director's Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome into the Pianta Parlor- er, Fun Stuff! Another month of papercrafted games and goodness for all of you to enjoy! What's that? I'm looking a little different this month? Yes, in the spirit of The Thousand-Year Door, I've put on my best anti-aging cream and devolved to Roselia, a Pokemon that actually existed when the game first came out! "But wait," you say, "I thought only Digimon could devolve?" Truly, this will remain one of life's greatest mysteries.
Just about every inch of Fun Stuff is full of Paper Mario celebration this month, so bring out your best arts supplies and have fun! In addition to the usual round-up, Waluigi Time (talk) has gifted us another edition of Musical Quiz, while Meta Knight (talk) is back with a Logic Puzzle fit for the party. With so many games in store, I don't want to keep you any longer. Thank you for reading, and set sail for these sweet sections!

Congratulations to the sly sneakster Waluigi Time (talk) for nabbing both first and second place last month! Further congrats to Shoey (talk) for getting Trivia to third place! Make sure to vote for your favorite sections this month, everyone!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hello everyone, welcome to our Thousand Year Door special! You probably don't need my help to guess the theme for this one, so I'll let you get right into the fold with these anagrams. If you want to suggest the theme for next month- or any time in the future, for that matter- please send me any suggestions on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums. I would love to hear them, as well as any other funny Mario-related anagrams you may have come up with. OK, time to papercut to the chase!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. OPAL WHO FACADES
2. URGE TROOP
3. OWNS RADISHES
4. TRY LAST ARCS
5. LOATH KOI
6. BOY GOD GLOWS
7. IF MALE EARDRUM
8. MACH BOA GRUB
9. HIGHLY SET HOPES
10. BEARABLY MORBID
11. EEL WREATHING
12. PET ARROWS
Bonus anagram:
- Palace of Shadow
- Rogueport
- Shadow Sirens
- Crystal Star
- Hooktail
- Boggly Woods
- Madame Flurrie
- Macho Grubba
- Poshley Heights
- Admiral Bobbery
- General White

Bonus anagram: Twilight Town
Word Search
Hello Fun Stuff readers! It's our special summer issue all about the 2nd best Paper Mario game, Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. Because of this, I decided to do a Word Search all about Thousand Year Door, even though I'm pretty sure I've already done one on Thousand Year Door before. But oh well, you know what they say, time is a flat circle! Also we're using a different word search maker this month because my regular one wasn't working. Words can be found vertically, horizontally, diagonally. backwards, and inside other words. As always have fun stay safe!

Welcome back to Crosswords, I'm MarioMorty, and today we have a very special themed edition. In case you haven't figured it out by now, this month's 'Shroom is themed after The Thousand-Year Door. This puzzle will focus on the bosses from that game. Here's to hoping it doesn't take you a thousand years to complete, and I will see everyone next month!
Hiding Koopa
Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)
Hello there, 'Shroom readers! Turns out I was a little off the mark last month. The game everyone was excited about wasn't Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins after all, it was the Nintendo Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door! Thankfully, it just so happens that we're having a special issue themed after that game, so it all worked out just fine. In all seriousness, I've been playing through this game and enjoying it a lot! It's a great game and a beautifully made remaster. But you didn't come here to hear my thoughts about the game, you came here to hunt down some Koopas. Five Koopas are hiding in this artwork from the Nintendo Switch version of The Thousand-Year Door, looking a little more papery than usual! Good luck!
Thanks for playing! Did you find them all?
Hint Art
Written by: ViableBunnyBudd (talk)
Welcome back to the next edition of Hint Art! This one is naturally themed after Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. It's an odd game in terms of Hint Art, but I think I made it work. I will confess that I've never actually played this game before, but I know enough about it to make art for it. From what I can tell it looks like a pretty good game.
So here's how it works: I have picked a location somewhere in the game. This is NOT the location of an existing star in the game; it is a custom location! I then made some art that abstractly represents this location in some way. It is now up to you, the reader, to decipher what this art means and to grab this imaginary star at this location! It's just like the rules of the Hint Arts from Super Mario Odyssey, only it's done for other 3D Marios. Most of these will be ground-pound stars like in Odyssey, but if I'm feeling creative I might have these imaginary stars in the air or activated by punching a wall.
This art is pretty abstract. Can you figure it out?
GAME: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (both versions)
SHINE TYPE: Ground Pound
Stick to the main path.
I adoor this particular hint.
Well, it sure isn't starboard.
Thanks for playing, unless you didn't!
Connections
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Here we are in the world of Connections yet again! I just got a letter from Princess Peach, asking me to help her figure out how these pair together! Think you can lend me a hand?
How it works:
Below is a table of sixteen different words, all of them with some sort of connection to the Mario series. These words correlate in sets of four, and it's up to you to figure out which words belong to a set! Work through the grid and decide which words are connected. Once you think you have the answer, check against the provided answers. If you get stuck along the way, feel free to utilize the clues. There's only one correct answer, so be on the lookout for words that feel like they might fit in more than one category. Good luck!
Tube | Colosseum | Paper | 3 |
Plane | Blizzard | E | Boat |
Deluxe | U | World | L |
I | Wonder | Shipyard | 35 |
Bending to this month's theme
__ and Mrs.
Have a rotten category!
- Tube, Paper, Plane, Boat: Paper abilities in The Thousand-Year Door

- 3, U, Wonder, 35: Super Mario Bros. __
How did you do? Did you figure out the connections? Thanks for playing!
Musical Quiz
Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)
Hello there, 'Shroom readers! Waluigi Time here, bringing you another guest edition of Fun Stuff's second favorite section during its original run, Musical Quiz! Is pulling one of these out every time we have a special issue going to become a tradition? I don't know! For now at least, I'm running 2 for 2.
The theme for this month is, of course, the Paper Mario series! There's a heavy focus on The Thousand-Year Door for obvious reasons, but there's at least one song from each game in the series here! Good luck and have fun!

Logic Puzzle
Written by: Meta Knight (talk)
- Copy the grid into your favorite image editing program and mark it off to try and solve the puzzle!
- Each entry at the top has only one correct answer per category. In this instance, each partner can only be in one place and only want one item.
- There might be more than one way to reach the solution. That being said, "a solution" will be provided.
- NOTE: No knowledge of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is required. This also means that knowing who "belongs" somewhere will not help you, the answers are based purely on the clues!
It's been 20 years since Mario learned about the Thousand-Year Door, which means two decades since he visited his companions that traveled along with him during that adventure. Mario has decided to visit them all for a grand reunion! So, he prepares a group email addressed to Goombella, Koops, Flurrie, Yoshi, Vivian, Bobbery, and Ms. Mowz. In the message, he briefly writes about how he's been doing, along with schedule information for the party he's hosting. Before his signature, he asks a question: What would you like me to bring? The confidants all respond to the email chain, informing how excited they are, and say where they can be found. However, an email communications error occurred, and at the time of Mario's arrival, only pieces of their messages went through! Help him figure out where each partner is at, and what item they requested!
- Madame Flurrie is not in her comfortable Boggly Woods home, nor is she at the luxurious Poshley Heights.
- Ms. Mowz was scavenging in Twilight Town. She does not want a Tasty Tonic nor a Rebel Cape.
- Whoever wants a Fire Flower is in Poshley Heights.
- Goombella is the first one to greet you in Rogueport. She doesn't need anything fancy, so she asked for a Mushroom.
- Whoever is in Boggly Woods has gained a fondness for pancakes, and wishes for some syrup.
- Yoshi is not in Glitzville, but would like a Courage Shell to decorate his home.
- Koops is not in Boggly Woods.
- Admiral Bobbery loves sailing, so he's stocking up at Keelhaul Key, and requested something to drink.
The second clue gives us a direct location! Ms. Mowz is in Twilight Town, therefore, she cannot be anywhere else, and no one else is in Twilight Town. Additionally, we can cross off a Tasty Tonic and Rebel Cape from her wishlist.
The third clue says that whoever wants a Fire Flower is in Poshley Heights. No direct information here, but since we know that Flurrie and Ms. Mowz are not in Poshley Heights, then they can't have a Fire Flower.
Clue four flat out states that Goombella is in Rogueport and wants a Mushroom. Pretty self-explanatory.
For clue number five, whoever is in Boggly Woods wants a syrup. This is most likely the Maple Syrup of course. Similarly to the previous hint, since Flurrie and Ms. Mowz are not in Boggly Woods, they don't have the syrup.
In clue six, we're told that Yoshi wants a Courage Shell, so we can confirm that in our notes. It's also worth pointing out that if he wants the Courage Shell, he didn't request the Fire Flower or the Maple Syrup, therefore he is not in Poshley Heights or Boggly Woods, respectively.
We've crossed out enough information to conclude that Ms. Mowz wants the Power Punch.
Clue seven says Koops is not in Boggly Woods. Therefore, he doesn't want the Maple Syrup.
The final clue states that Bobbery is in Keelhaul Key, so we can mark that as the correct answer. Once again, since he is in Keelhaul Key, therefore he is not in Boggly Woods or Poshley Heights, and doesn't want the Fire Flower or the Maple Syrup. This clue also states that he wants something to drink, and since the Tasty Tonic and Rebel Cape are the only options left, he must want the Tasty Tonic.
We have enough information to confirm that Yoshi is in Petalburg. Additionally, Vivian requested the Maple Syrup, so she must be in Boggly Woods due to clue five!
Finally, we can use elimination to deduce the remaining answers. Koops wants the Fire Flower in Poshley Heights, so Flurrie is in Glitzville desiring a Rebel Cape!
Goombella is in Rogueport and asked for a Mushroom, Koops is in Poshley Heights wanting a Fire Flower, Madame Flurrie was in Glitzville requesting a Rebel Cape, Yoshi was in Petalburg wishing for a Courage Shell, Vivian needs some delicious Maple Syrup in Boggly Woods, Admiral Bobbery craves a Tasty Tonic in Keelhaul Key, and Ms. Mowz was in Twilight Town desiring a yearning for a Power Punch. Thanks to your deductive work, Mario was able to gather everyone and fulfill their wishlists. The reunion party goes smoothly, and everyone has a wonderful time!
Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!
You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!
Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.
Challenge round (optional):
-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less
-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help
“Gumshoe, a new case has come through, and we’re putting you on the beat! Carmen has been suspiciously quiet since her last heist, and ACME has agents tracking down leads on her whereabouts. But for now, we have a puzzling case for you this time: Princess Peach has reported that several of her souvenirs from her time at the Sparkle Theater have gone missing. Her list includes her Patisserie cookbook, her ice skater headpiece, her mermaid’s tail costume, and her detective’s magnifying glass. I had a couple agents question the servants at the castle, and they haven’t noticed anything suspicious as of late, although there is one maid on vacation currently. I need you to track down that maid and ask her a few questions about the items to see if we can get a lead. Let’s get to work, gumshoe!”

“Gumshoe, you pulled at a couple strings and the whole case unraveled for us! We’ve been tracking your location, and we noticed that all of your destinations were suspiciously related to most of the items that Princess Peach had reported missing. The maid had taken all of them to use for her vacation! When we found her on the ice, she immediately handed everything over and apologized profusely. We’ll have to let Princess Peach decide what to do with her. For now, we did not take her into custody, but she did scurry off to cancel the rest of her vacation as we were leaving. Princess Peach is overjoyed to have her things returned to her, and she sent over a little coin reward for you. We’ve deposited it into your account directly. You’ve done good work today, gumshoe! Now, time to return to your desk and start your case report!”
