Shroom 2021 Roserade.png

Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome into the Issue 207 edition of Fun Stuff! Here in the Fun Stuff offices, I'm making sure everything is decorated for the Awards season! That's right, did you know you could find the Community Awards Dossier and polls in this very issue! It's true - please check them out once you're done reading through your other usual 'Shroom samplings! Many of your favorite writers and creators are up for awards, right now, and voting for them is a perfect opportunity to honor them.

What does decorating for the Awards season look like? Well, since us directors are all in the Clown Car, it means circus theming as far as the eye can see! Cotton candy machines, face-paint booths, red and white fabrics... If you'd like to join in the festivities, I'm sure I've got another clown nose somewhere in the back!

Silliness aside, it's the same Fun Stuff you know and love. Get cozy and get playing! Happy summer, and more importantly, happy pride month everyone!!

Section of the Month

Congratulations to ViableBunnyBudd for placing first last month! Excellent work on an excellent new section. Further congratulations to Waluigi Time (talk) and Shoey (talk) for second and third place respectively! Make sure to vote for your favorite sections this month!

Anagrams

Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)

Hi everybody, welcome to the June edition of anagrams! Given we've had to push back the summer issue a bit to make it the best that we can, I'm going to have to do the same with my theme for this month- but don't worry, I've got some really precious Wario World anagrams for you all instead! However, if you're in the mood to suggest a theme or anagram for me, please don't hesitate- there's plenty of editions after this in store! Just let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums. Alright, time to mine for some valuable answers!

How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!

Word Search

Written by: Shoey (talk)

Saw The Garfield Movie a few weeks ago. It sure was a film of our time! It wasn't what I was expecting! I figured it would be like the animated classic The Peanuts Movie where they just do Garfield's greatest hits for two hours. Instead, it was a heist movie. Why is it a heist movie! Garfield would hate heists! He hates movement and just wants to eat Italian food using Jon's credit card! Anyways this month's Word Search is all about Garfield I guess. Oh and the one single okay character from the awful US Acres. Words can be found vertically, horizontally, diagonally, backwards, and inside other words. As always, have fun and stay safe.

Hiding Koopa

Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)

Hello there, 'Shroom readers! So I hear that everyone's excited about a Mario game where you run around collecting important artifacts to open up a door. I can see why, I suppose. It had a lot of unique enemy designs that you never really saw in the franchise again, the main villain isn't Bowser which is a nice breath of fresh air, and it's a sequel to a game that already did a lot of unique things for the series. No wonder so many people love this game!

That's why five Koopas are hiding in the artwork for Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins this month! Good luck hunting them down!

Hint Art

Written by: ViableBunnyBudd

It's now that time of year: Summer time. A fine time to go relax in the sunshine… maybe even some Super Mario Sunshine? That's definitely a good reason to validate my game of choice for this issue. Yep.

So here's how it works: I have picked a location somewhere in the game. This is NOT the location of an existing star in the game; it is a custom location! I then made some art that abstractly represents this location in some way. It is now up to you, the reader, to decipher what this art means and to grab this imaginary star at this location! It's just like the rules of the Hint Arts from Super Mario Odyssey, only it's done for other 3D Marios. Most of these will be ground-pound stars like in Odyssey, but if I'm feeling creative I might have these imaginary stars in the air or activated by punching a wall.

I wanted to try out a new style of hint art for this issue in a similar way to how Mario Odyssey does things. I just wanted to see how it feels. Let me know what you think.

GAME: Super Mario Sunshine
SHINE TYPE: Ground Pound

HintArt 207 1.png
HINT 1

It's probably not a good idea to stay here for too long.

HINT 2

The location depicted has been kept secret.

HINT 3

"What is this dog doing on my track?! Shoo boy!"

SOLUTION

HintArt 207 2.jpg
This hint art depicts Poochy in a specific corner in Ricco Harbor's Blooper Surfing Safari secret area. It's the corner for the final turn just before the goal. Ground Pounding where he was will reveal the shine, at least in our imagination.

Thanks for playing, unless you didn't!

Connections

Written by: Roserade (talk)

Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome back to another round of Connections! Silly me, I just can't seem to keep my terms in the right order. Do you think you can help me out?

How it works:
Below is a table of sixteen different words, all of them with some sort of connection to the Mario series. These words correlate in sets of four, and it's up to you to figure out which words belong to a set! Work through the grid and decide which words are connected. Once you think you have the answer, check against the provided answers. If you get stuck along the way, feel free to utilize the clues. There's only one correct answer, so be on the lookout for words that feel like they might fit in more than one category. Good luck!

Beach Pack Banana Star
Fireball Peel Red Feather
Frog Kid Cape Happy
Rabbit Load Bros Egg
Clue 1

Start with "Red"

Clue 2

How Super would it be to knock someone off-track?

Clue 3

Change a character

Answer
  1. Red, Banana, Star, Frog: __ Coin
  2. Fireball, Peel, Feather, Egg: Items in Super Mario Kart
  3. Beach, Happy, Rabbit, Load: Mario characters with a letter changed (Peach, Cappy, Nabbit, Toad)
  4. Pack, Kid, Cape, Bros: Koopa __

How did you do? Did you figure out the connections? Thanks for playing!

Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

HOW TO PLAY

Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!

You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!

Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.

Challenge round (optional):

-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less

-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help

This mission will be busted if you don't succeed!

“We’ve got a new case for you, gumshoe. Professor E. Gadd has been tuning up Luigi’s ghost-hunting equipment in preparation for the upcoming release of Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, including the Dual Scream and the Poltergust 5000. However, when he left his lab to buy more snacks, someone snuck in and swiped both of the devices! The Poltergust needs no explanation- it’s the ghost-vacuuming machine that allows Luigi to stun and suck up ghosts. The Dual Screen helps him find his way around the different mansions and communicate with the professor while he’s hunting ghosts. Both are crucial tools, and Luigi will not be able to move through all of the mansions without them- he may not even take the job with out his tools! It’s imperative that you track down both devices so E. Gadd can continue his maintenance and updates before the release of the game. Now, our culprit. From the professor’s grainy security footage, it looks like our culprit may actually be a ghost- a green figure was seen sneaking into the lab. Whether it’s a phantom or a felon, we need to get to the bottom of this before the game ghosts fans!”

CASE CLOSED

HIDEOUT ANSWER: Wario Palace from Mario Superstar Baseball Mario Superstar Baseball

Time to clean up some ghosts once again!

“You did it, gumshoe! And was this one quite a catch! We rushed to the baseball stadium that you indicated, and found our culprit hiding under the mustache on the giant statue of Wario. It was not a ghost, but actually one of Carmen’s more high-ranking thieves. He’s been on our list for years, and now we’ve caught him red- ah, green, handed. It seems that Carmen was interested in E. Gadd’s devices, which is why she made a plot to steal them, although we haven’t worked out what she would need them for. We’ll assign a follow-up investigation to see to that once we return our thief to ACME custody! E. Gadd is thrilled to have his inventions back, and he has sent along a little reward for you- an invention for your desk called the ACME- File-O-Matic to help you keep your desk free of clutter. With a clean desk, you’ll be able to concentrate on your incident reports, gumshoe! I’ll let you get back to headquarters to get started on that, and we will keep you up to date on your next assignment!”

Also, did you know this plan failed because it was stupid?
