Gleamin' Breams, also spelled Gleaming Breams,[1] are bulky yellow fish appearing only in the Floodlit Fish level of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! They are relatives of Bounty Basses, but unlike them, Gleamin' Breams do not have an item stored inside of them, nor can they be defeated. Gleamin' Breams are uniquely bioluminescent, so they can produce and emit light. If Enguarde stabs a Gleamin' Bream, the Gleamin' Bream gets startled and illuminates the area temporarily, giving the player the ability to see their surroundings and have Enguarde travel further into the level. A photograph of a Gleamin' Bream appears in Dixie Kong's Photo Album, under the Aquatic Attackers class.
Gleamin' Breams appear to be the inspiration for a species of bioluminescent fish in the Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze level, Amiss Abyss. They are small and encountered in schools. Scattering a school of such fish with a corkscrew move makes them produce light for a short time and illuminate the dark area of the stage.
